The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed
(All Souls)
Gospel: Jn 6:37-40
Jesus said to the crowds:
“Everything that the Father gives me will come to me,
and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,
because I came down from heaven not to do my own will
but the will of the one who sent me.
And this is the will of the one who sent me,
that I should not lose anything of what he gave me,
but that I should raise it on the last day.
For this is the will of my Father,
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him
may have eternal life,
and I shall raise him on the last day.”

If you believe in resurrection, I don't understand, why would you need to pray for the dead? They are dead until resurrection. Once they are dead they can't make any changes as to how they lived. In the second resurrection is said that people are judged "according ti what they have done." (Rev. 20:11-15) This is when those who were not resurrected in the first resurrection come to life to be judged, not because they are somewhere else now. Praying for them won't help since their judgment is based on how they lived their lives.
