Very Few People Know
The L1A1 SLR rifle and bayonet placed on its barrel and is capped by a helmet at the Amar Jawan memorial in New Delhi belonged to an Unknown Soldier who died fighting in the Jessore sector (which was 90 kms from Calcutta and 45 kms from Bangaon(West Bengal nearby Indo - Bangladesh border during Bangladesh Liberation War 1971.)

Most Probably the Unknown Soldier belonged to 2nd Corps commanded by Lt. Gen T N Raina who had two divisions, one PARAchute Brigade less one battalion and one squadron

The Jessore Mission was employed to 9 Infantry Division under Maj Gen Dalbir Singh..

The unknown soldier must be among the mentioned Indian Army Operation Formations
