This is so true. I got two puppies 4 months apart, and being a new dogs owner, I made so many mistakes that took years to undo. It took six years and they are now well adjusted dogs I had to learn a lot in the last 6 years

Having one is like having one. Two is like having five. Our shepherd pups are sisters and are 4 months old. A LOT more work but well worth it. Once they understand the Alpha thing, it gets much easier. The key is to train separately= more work. Much less distraction and one on one time builds relationship.

Everyone who is thinking about getting multiple puppies should listen to this first.

Thanks for this ! 👍🐕 I currently have two 6 month old ACD pups both female and siblings. I didn’t intend to have both as a neighbor wanted a pup and I did too so we rescued siblings with intent to play and go on outings together but they would be in different homes and I would train them. My neighbor decided after one week she couldn’t handle it so I said I would take her on. I have my own dog training business and 3 other older dogs 🐕 at home. It’s an understatement to say it’s ALOT of work with the two babies. During potty training it wasn’t any harder and crate training it wasn’t, but managing in house behavior and yard play is a full time eyes in the back of your head job. We are now focusing on separate walks and outings to the pet store, Home Depot, large bustling parks to build confidence on their own. Managing dominance and inappropriate play is a must and they can become codependent and have separation anxiety by being left on their own to just play and keep each other company. We adhere to a pretty strict schedule and crates are a lifesaver. I recognize that I may still have to re-home one if there is fighting that develops and I can’t work through it. So far we are managing this. I don’t want to separate them ever as I love both but it’s better to realize what is best for each dog to have its best life and sometimes that means being in a one dog home or having a different dynamic with a housemate pet. Just offering this here for anyone who is going through the same. Each situation is different but it really takes a lot of objectivity and less emotional based decision making when it comes to these scenarios. 🐕🌼🐕

I’m a single guy, 1 month into owning dachshund siblings, I took two weeks off work and got them acclimated.

They’ve been doing great so far but I had to allocate 3x as much time as I’d scheduled for just having one.

No behavioural issues so far, using model rival theory to motivate both of them to strengthen their weaknesses & tons of socialization & time away from each other seems to have helped a lot.

Proceed with caution but in my experience it’s not as doom and gloom as people say it is.

Terrified for when they hit puberty but so far so good!

Wife and I rescued litter mate orphans. Two girls. The biggest thing really is that they distract each other when trying to train. For example, one stays and another moves, both will move. They're getting better though.

Yep....TWO full time jobs! Then you have to go to work to earn money to take care of THIS.... Great video!!! Now I don't feel guilty for not having a brother for my puppy

Thank you. Very insightful! Also makes me glad I’m not still living in Vermont; had 3 dogs there, walked them EVERY DAY but never once saw anyone walking their dog over a 6 year stretch. NOT ONCE. People get their dog, chain them up to a post or tree and the dog stays there 365 days a year getting more and more vicious. It was quite strange to me and not a darn thing I could do for them. Anyway, I digress. Understood your premise and very well stated. Sticking with ONE works well for me.

I cant imagine EVER getting two puppies at once. MAYBE a puppy and a kitten around the same time, but that's it.

Yup, I got two pups about 7 months apart. A Cane Corso and a Boxer. They are crazy about each other, and their playtime is strictly limited. I take the Corso with me and stay at my mother's place for most of the week and my husband has the primary relationship with the Boxer. This is the best way to mitigate the chaos and defiance that happens when they're together. We are working to make their primary relationship with their humans.

of work!! I get up, get my 2 year old gsd out. Walk him around property till he goes #2. I have his food already prepared, and he eats. Then I get my 3 year old female gsd, walk her around property, till she goes #2. Then she gets her food. Then I get my 2 cup of coffee, while there food setlits. Then structure walk, and off leach walk, with training mixed in. Then get back home, get my female, go for bike ride, with training mixed MUCH WORK!

I'd disagree with the double the work part. It's more like TRIPLE. We got two brothers from the same litter, I almost pulled what's left of my hair out. Some of the fights were absolutely crazy and almost frightening. They're almost two years old now and have settled in pretty well. They still kind of feed off each other, but they seem to watch each other's back while watching the house and property when outside. I'll probably never do this again though, it was crazy.

I have a 9-month-old German Shepherd and a 3-month-old Great Pyrenees and it was the best choice ever. They both tire each other out and my Shepherd is old enough to listen and teach the Pyr.

Would you recommend getting Male first to raise, or Female first, does it matter? and why, thank you very much.
