First Ride 2021 Specialized Stumpjumper - Does new 130mm Stumpjumper make trail bike perfection?

Показать описание
Specialized today launch the new 2021 Stumpjumper, a bike with 130mm of travel and 29er wheels. Gone are the days of short travel and long travel trail bikes, it appears the Stumpy now has its own identity and fills a gap in the range giving Specialized a short to mid travel trail bike touting its 130mm travel coupled with 140mm fork. Rach takes a look at the range and gives her first ride impressions.

I've bought a Stumpy ST Alloy S3 as my first full sus MTB. Its quite enough for the neaby trails. I'm quite new to jomps, but small tabletops are not a problem for this bike. It also goest really smoothly on the rooty trails and singletracks with small obstacles (up to 50 cm/20 in). It also goes well on drops. Gives me a lot of fun. I'm still trimming my suspesion but haven't bottomed it out yet, so seems fine tuned and I've heard the opinieons that these X-Fusion dampers are wuite fragile in case of bottoming them out. For sure will ride it for as long as possible and I'll be slowly upgrading the mech - I suppose that SX is not precise enough and needs tuning. Some gears dont lock. Sometimes it swiches two gears when you want to drop jus one (when going for the smaller ring) and then gets one up. Annoying. Fork is a Rockshox 35 Solo Air (not the X-Fusion as you entioned, or maybe I misheared?) and works just fine. I'm not sure if it wil get more tokens than two, but need to check that. To sum it up: works fine for me, needs some tuning, be careful of a damper and it should work just fine for some time.

Thanks for the great videos! I'm currently looking at this bike as well as the Nukeproof Reactor so it would be great if you could do a comparison :-) My last Stumpjumper was a 2016 and although it had a lot of bob when pedaling, I loved how it felt on the descents. It was super active and ate up all the chunk. I have since owned another brands bike which was touted as having an "efficient pedaling" suspension and it was rubbish on the descents. No matter how I adjusted the suspension it felt like I was riding a bucking bronco. So, although I am interested in how efficient it pedals when the rear suspension is open, more important is how it feels on the steeper chunky descents because that's where it counts the most. Thanks again!

Been looking at the YT Izzo for a while, are you planning to do a review on that bike anytime soon? The new Stumpjumper looks pretty similar, but it's at least $7, 000 to get even close to YT's $5, 300 model in spec

Did you ever get more time on the Stumpjumper comp alloy? Curious how the new Horst link aluminum version rides. I can only find reviews so far on that carbon flex stay models.

I'm 6'4 195lbs and found an S5 for a good deal. 6'4 is the upper limit of the recommended range for S5. Would this be too small? I would like having a bike with a bit more maneuverability but definitely don't want it to feel too small.
