This video is sponsored by SeaProg, a non-profit festival of art and progressive music in Seattle.
They paid to fly me to Seattle to film this concert.
Thank you SeaProg and Shunpike!

This concert was supposed to be the final @bentkneemusic show with @BenLevin and @JusticeCow, but Ben and Jessica unfortunately got covid and couldn't attend.

Remaining Bent Knee members: @cha1isu (we've interviewed her several times on MWM) on vocals, Chris Baum on violin, Vince Welch on guitar and effects, Gavin Wallace-Ailsworth on drums

There are three songs in this video:

00:00 “Black Tar Water”
05:51 Improv
15:05 “Bird Song”

If you don't get the chills during Bird Song, get your pulse checked. I just loved this performance.

Also unfortunate, the sound guy turned off the board audio going to my cameras, so the audio is the best EQ job I could do with the internal microphones on my cameras. I think it turned out better than I expected. Hope you can still enjoy it!

Seaprog is fiscally sponsored by Shunpike. Shunpike is the 501(c)(3) non-profit agency that provides independent arts groups in Washington State with the services, resources, and opportunities they need to forge their own paths to sustainable success.

As a huge fan of BK who never had the opportunity to see the original lineup live, this is just such a gut wrenching performance. Bird song in particular. Really hard to detach it from the context of Ben and Jess' farewell show, which wasn't to be. I will forever be supremely thankful to Bent Knee for six incredible albums (and Paper Earth!) that all occupy their own special places in my heart.

It's going to take some getting used without Ben and Jess. I wonder if they'll be getting another guitarist and bassist.
