Habitus is an influential theory in sociology which helps us understand the workings of human society. There are different theories on how our viewpoints are constructed, how certain groups maintain their control over other etc. Among them, Karl Marx focused on the economic aspect of the society, in his famous model of base and superstructure. Max Weber has gone a little farther. Here, Bourdieu is also going a further. It is the habitus which forms and individual's identity and viewpoints, and the formation of habitus is not a simple process as the ruling class singlehandedly shaping our consciousness, though they will have a significant role in this.
