Carpool Lane Violator!!

Watch this clown totally violate the sanctity of the carpool lane.

As a non-motorcycle driver, I even know that splitting lanes IS legal in California. All those who say these motorcycle guys are doing illegal stuff is rubbish. It's the law in California. But what that car driver did, cut into double yellow lines, THAT is a ticket right there.

I wonder if the U.S. re-administered the driving test to all citizens who have a license, how many would pass the test again because there seems to be a ton of drivers nowadays that don't know everything they should while on the road..

You have to have a minimum amount of people in your car in order to use the carpool lane. Most of California is 2 people per car, some areas (like in the bay area) are 3 people. So if you're driving alone, you cannot go into the carpool lane unless you are riding a motorcycle or if you have an HOV sticker on a hybrid/electric car (not sure if this is still in effect). It basically encourages you to ride-share to decrease traffic congestion and pollution.

Understood. The carpool lane encourages people to share rides. Depending on the time of day and the road you are traveling, the other lanes might be bumper to bumper traffic. But the carpool lane will usually always be moving along at a decent speed. You are only supposed to enter & exit the car pool lane in designated zones. This person didn't enter in a designated zone, and I'm not eve sure if he had the minimum number of people in his vehicle to qualify for carpool use. Motorcycles qualify

Single occupancy bikes and "green" cars are permitted to use the lanes in California and other states.

Think of it less about the total number of occupants per vehicle and more about the total area of roadway being occupied.. I'd rather see more bikes on the road and fewer SUVs and Pickups. Allowing bikes in the lane is an incentive for others to follow that same idea.

I've already addressed the laws, and outlined their irrelevance. It's also legal to pass on the right, and is still legal to text and drive in some States, not to mention all States until very recently. What's your point?

we don't have "carpool lane" here in Belgium, and I'm wondering what's the use of this kind of lane.
Why are there lane like these ? Are they on every highway ?

Patrick, Lane splitting is legal and an accepted practice in all of California. Furthermore, I am totally within my legal rights to use the carpool lane as a motorcyclist. Please feel free to correct me based don legal statutes in the California Law (leginfo dot ca dot gov/calaw.html)

I cant remember the last time a coworker said "hey guys my turn to carpool this week, I got my crotchrocket...im sure I can fit all 4 of us on it" If bikes can use it they need to change that law

yeah im sure you know more then that guy, because you need to know the law if you want to have a driver license on a motorcycle. some people just got there license and forgot all of what they learned.
