The way his little light goes out when he watches his ship fly away breaks my heart 😞😟😢

Always feel bad for E.T. particularly in this scene. His curiosity and wonder of Earth's plant life drew him further and further from the ship. So when they had to leave in a big hurry he couldn't reach them in time. They waited for him as long as they could, which, I think, explains the one who was still standing in the door way as it was closing. He was probably, in their own way, telling E.T. to hurry. But again E.T. was just too far away and they had to leave without him.

I saw this movie numerous times. I lost count. Probably at least 75 times since I was 4 years old when I saw it for the first time, and when it came to the big screen for the 2 day TCM event 2 years ago, I attended the Sunday screening. It's one of those movies you have to see on the big screen and fortunately I got this opportunity to see it since I wasn't born yet in 1982 and the 20th anniversary release wasn't the original version so I didn't care to see that one.

ET was one fast moving LOL 🤣😂On a serious note though I really do appreciate the original version of this scene compared to the 20th anniversary where he was jumping all around. True it does look a bit mechanical (looks like they moved him on some platform) in this version, but the fun of seeing these movies is in their original state. You take away from the time they were created when you start to add in CGI and make everything look just a 'bit more real'. Also it just took the authenticity away from ET with the other scenes when they made him CGI, made him look 'Too Cute' and more Disney like.
