Remember bigger bodies also require more food to maintain. That's part of why the hell pig went away too. Less fat combined with a bigger body is a death sentence when, "loot, " begins to dry up.

Fun fact. Agitated boar keeps attacking even mortally wounded. That's why boar hunting spears had metal wings to stop boar from charging down the shaft and killing hunter. That's also a reason why in Monty Python's Holly Grail black knight's coat of arms was a boar

I've trapped hogs in my younger days and let me tell you they can cause some serious damage. I've seen 2 or more acres of swert corn disappear over night. It looks like a breaking plow ran over the ground and big ones can really mess up a solid built steel trap.

In Colombia some people keep pigs specifically because they eat venomous snakes and can resist them.

Don't let the cuddly piggie videos fool you--a domestic hog is one of the most dangerous animals on a farm. You don't want to be anywhere near a rutting boar, a sow that's just given birth, or any other hog that's pissed off for any other reason. They generally trim the tusks on a hog farm, but they can still bite, kick, or stomp you into oblivion.

I live outside Augusta Ga. When I was younger...like 45 years ago the news started reporting on horses and cows, even bulls being attacked by an unknown animal at night in their fields. This went on for a couple of weeks. The horses suffered big nasty wounds. Everyone presumed it was a large bear. What else after all could bring down full grown horses and huge bulls? Hunters were called in with their dogs and set about hunting the animal. The dogs finally bayed it. Before the hunters could arrive the wild boar that weighed in the area of 1000lbs, had killed quite a number of the dogs.
Hogs are built like tanks. They are literally armored with two huge tucks that are actually bottom teeth that grow continually that can actually rip you wide open. There is nothing in the American wilderness, until you maybe get to grizzly country, that stands a chance against one of these giant hogs. Grizzly vs giant hog...I'm betting on the hog.

hitting a boar with your car is like running it into a block of concrete, the car is 100% fubar after that and often times the boar will walk off that encounter like a bad hangover.
also one of the dumbest things you can do after running over a boar is to get out of your car to assess the damage, because boars will also play dead until you approach only to get back up and attack when you do.

The female Barbarossa likes male Barbarossa with big tusks. Because they keep selecting for tusk size, the tusks just keep getting bigger and bigger. This does not become a problem until after the pig has mated and raised it's babies so the next generation will also have this problem.

If pigs were ruminants the down side would be that they’d sacrifice a lot of their speed.
I think their olfaction and ability to dig for food works better for an animal of their size, being a ruminant is only really worth it if you’re big enough that being slower isn’t an issue.

I study animal behavior, and I can say, researchers find that pigs are right up there, between primates and dogs. The only animals really smarter than them are primates, cetaceans, elephants, parrots and corvids.
