I said this the other day on a different video but I'll say it again here: to me, the only requirement to be a Christmas movie is that the events of the movie wouldn't happen if Christmas wasn't involved. The only reason John Maclane was going to LA was to see his estranged wife and children for Christmas, therefore Christmas is essential to the plot. By this logic, Die Hard is a Christmas movie.

If you removed all the killing and the terrorists - Die Hard is basically a Hallmark movie. Estranged blue collar husband flies across the country to share Christmas with corporate executive wife and ends up re-kindling the romance and she falls in love with him all over again. C'mon. It's a Christmas movie.

I agree, Charlie, Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie. So is Das Boot, with the scene in Vigo, and they do get home for Christmas, only it doesn't turn out so well.
My personal favorite Christmas film is The Lion in Winter. Full of family fights.
