Five Channel Budget Amps by Kenwood and Pioneer 4K UHD

Today we look at five channel amps from Pioneer and Kenwood. Both amps retail for $349 USD and offer a lot of features for the money. The Pioneer GM-D9605 is rated to deliver 75x4 plus 350x1 at 4 ohms or 100x4 plus 600x1 at 2 ohms. The Kenwood Excelon X801-5 is rated 50x4 plus 300x1 at 4 ohms or 75x4 plus 500x1 at 2 ohms. I've always been a Kenwood amp fan from back in the day with my first Kenwood amps KAC 1021 and 742

I installed one of those Pioneer amps in a friend's Pilot.

We ran a pair of Pioneer components in the front, coax in the rear, plus two Pioneer shallow 12's.

That amp pushes this system very well and sounds fantastic.

Nice. Thank-you for this. I have a Kenwood XR600-1 that is rated at 400 watts RMS at 4 ohms or 600 at 2 ohms. It measures 8-11/16in - W x 1-7/16in - L x 8in. It has always amazed me since I bought it that something this small like the Kenwood in this video can put out so much power and do it all day long without breaking down. I have owned the amp for 2 years now with no issues at all. Hopefully these 2 amps are reliable over the long term as they both seem to pack a large amount of power into a small chassis.

Thanks for this video. Based on the results of the testing I bought the Kenwood.
I ordered the X801-5 you tested but ended up getting sent the X802-5 (All input/output & remote SW control on one side, all x-over/sensitivity controls on the other).
I ran the amp with the stock radio at first til I decided which head unit I wanted. I ended up going with the Kenwood Excelon to make it a matching set.
6 months later and I don't regret my choices.
