I have had my eye on the Sony a5100 forever. Right now I'm just using my iPhone. And I'm also so glad that you mentioned to use the iPhone first before you go and just buy a $900+ camera. I only have 14 videos up and I'm glad I started using my phone first. I made sure that I really love doing this, now it's time to invest in equipment!

I recently got the a5100 and I love it, definitely worth the investment. Awesome quality and it's pretty compact compared to a DSLR which is great for travelling and taking pics on the day to day. So happy with it so far!

We have lots of the same gear! 👍🏻 Great tip about using the laptop as a monitor! Much easier than trying to see on the tiny flip screen. Also I didn't know you could change sharpness and saturation within the canon software. That's amazing! 😊

I'm new to the Youtube scene and currently filming off my Android S6. I was gifted a tripod but I used to do the stack of books ;) Leaning toward the A5100 to get a 2 in 1 until I can buy a separate filming/product shot camera. Great tips!

I've come across so many videos where they say they're going to show you their equipment but don't truly give an honest explanation of exactly what they do and how they work their stuff. seriously! where have you been my whole youtube life???? this video was so very helpful. I was planning to hire a photographer (friend of a friend) to come and help me with my settings once I moved to my new filming studio. Now I think I may be able to tackle somethings my self!!! Currently, I film on my iPhone 6splus. Like you mentioned, the back camera is awesome and films in 4K! I use books and a gorilla tripod and mirror my camera to my apple tv for my monitor! this youtube 101 series is really great. Thanks!

May I make a suggestion for your audio. I can here a digital noise in the background and the audio sounds a little flat and tin like :( I suggest running your Audio file through ''Audacity' It's great, you will be able to use Noise reduction and take that sound out while adding a little bass and treble then compression to give the audio file more bulk and volume (Don't mean it as hate, just a little constructive criticism) To give good balance to my comment: You have a pretty face and your video editing is spot on, slides and sound effects are cool :) You must work hard on your videos.
