Imagine building parking lot larger than the store and not letting people push their cart there

Cutting edge technology. This first shopping cart wheel lock is from 1968.

You always know you're in a nice neighborhood when there are random shopping carts sitting around

They actually didn't think this through, if people park so far that they have to bring their cart it will stop so i think target should extend the distance of the stopper thing

These stores need to measure their perimeters and program accordingly.

most grocery stores already do this and there’s no problem💀

Done this in the UK for 20 years and it's never been an issue. It's only a magnet in the floor so you can just wheelie them over

I worked at Krogers and they had the same thing put on their carts, there was numerous problems with them malfunctioning, and just stopping out of nowhere, even when they’re not out of their zone. There is one time a pregnant lady was using a cart and it locked up on her out of nowhere and she hit her stomach really hard against the cart and she was OK but she said it really hurt. These carts will also stop if the anti theft alarm goes off.

If the carts are stopping in the middle of the parking lot, then the fault is totally on the store that implemented it for making the range way too small. It works by burying an antenna just under the pavement so when the cart gets into range of the antenna, the break locks up until you are back inside the area again. If a cart does malfunction to where the break stays engaged all the time even if its inside the area, then that cart is removed from the lot and repaired.

I honestly like the aldi shopping carts. Just put a quarter in and go. Then return and get your money back

Grocery stores near me have been doing this for years. They have a boundary around their parking lot so that the sensor can't cross that line (like a shock collar on a dog). I've never heard anyone have a problem with them.

My stores do this and it’s been a real headache, sometimes they trigger before we even leave the store. The employees look so tired of it. Many are on stand by near the doors and outside looking out for people struggling with their carts so they can unlock them for us. They definitely need some work.

They usuly don't lock in the parking lot. This sounds like a case of incorrect parameters in the programming.

I’m Canadian and I work at a grocery store and out carts do this. So do almost all other grocery stores I’ve been to as well in the country. The sensors trigger going out the front door if the cart doesn’t pass a trigger at a register or self checkout. Otherwise they will lockup if you leave out parking lot. They have enough range to cover the entire parking lot. I don’t get how Walmart and target can’t figure that out

It works fine if you put the sensors to lock the cart around the parking lot rather than outside the store

Kroger has done that for years. The cart stops at two times: if it's outside the perimeter or if the cart trues to leave the store without passing through the register. Self checkout caused failures quite a few times and cards would sometimes just lock out randomly. The brakes would also start to fail and that wheel would only halfway work. When I worked there we constantly had at least 30 carts that needed repair.

We've had that in the UK for a few years and the best way to sort it is to put a folded piece of paper or plastic in next to the wheel.
Stops it locking
