Australia is ranked 57th in the world when it comes to internet speeds, and there are three basic reasons why.

I'm from America and my Australian friend told me how bad the internet is in Australia, I couldn't believe him, he was very adamant about how bad it is. Now that I'm in Australia.... He was absolutely right. I take back the days where I complained about 30ms ping. I was baffled Australia using DSL technology in 2020, that's like 20 years old obsolete. Ill pour one out to the Australian gamers and nerds.

What a poor excuse. Internet has always been lacking behind in Australia. And with urbanisation levels higher than in all of Europe, the size of the continent doesn't really matter that much.

Anything that the Murdoch press says about Australia's broadband is bound to be lies (and this video is no different). Murdoch got Abbott to "demolish" the original fibre NBN (look up some stories from New Zealand about how great fibre internet is going for them).

Edit: And one last thing...over Q1 2015 to Q1 2016, there was an 89.6% growth in fibre broadband subscribers worldwide. Source: Point Topic

You didn't mention the terrible technologies selected by the Government. FTTN requires decent quality copper networks to get decent speeds. Also, in other countries rolling out new networks, the majority of them have selected FTTP which means that when they do upgrade a house it leaps and bounds over our most common upgrade point.

What's worse is that we're spending billions and billions on this outdated telecommunications network knowing that in late 2020 we're going to spend billions and billions more updating it all to FTTP.
