Berlioz’s tuba playing the dies irae part from the last movement was originally written for an instrument called an “Ophecleide” which was a cross between a bassoon and a saxophone.

The most extraordinary symphony written by the most extraordinary composer. I can fully understand Sir Colin Davis´ passion for Berlioz, for me there is no other composer even remotely like him, possibly the greatest muscial genius of all time.
