The crew aboard the International Space Station, including four Americans, was forced to shelter in place after a Russian weapons test destroyed a satellite, scattering debris that’s now stuck in orbit. NBC’s Kerry Sanders reports for TODAY from Cape Canaveral.

Isn't this the EXACT plot to the movie Gravity?

The more crap up there, the more close calls will happen.

The Russian debris is in a north south orbit. There will be more near misses in the immediate future. There might even be a collision.

They need a magnet satalite that collects material and smelt it into bars or sheets that can be use for repair of stuff already in space.

The satellite, the ISS, and the destroying missile were traveling in the same direction. I would think that the most that would happen would be a ding. Probably the most vulnerable elements would be the solar array. But that would only be a ding also. Just recently there was a problem with a visiting body mistakenly firing a thruster. Not much happened there either. The ISS travels in the same direction as the Earth's rotation. So TOO does everything else. Else it (other objects) goes into a grind (against molecules (atmosphere)), loses forward motion and drops to the ground. So they travel in the same direction. If the destroyed parts go faster, they go into a higher orbit.

1. Most space debris in space from the United States
2. The trajectory of the downed satellite was perpendicular to the trajectory of the International Space Station. the distance between the orbits was over 40 kilometers. This test posed no threat to the ISS.
3. Russia a few years ago offered the United States to conclude an agreement on the non-use of outer space for military purposes - the United States rejected this proposal.
4. This year, the United States created a special space force to gain military dominance in space.

The United States is simply furious that Russia has successfully tested an anti-satellite system, which even the United States has no analogues. Now, in the event of a conflict with the United States, Russia can simply destroy American satellites and the United States will be left without communications, tracking and guidance systems.

Another propaganda or setup, everyone has been cluttering space for decades and now all of the sudden one rocket shot by Russians and space is too cluttered. This smells like smoke screen for something else coming down in the pipeline.
