Train wheels don't rely on the flanges much. They rely on being tapered so the whole vehicle self centres. It also works as a differential for corners.

You definitely have to try this again!! Still one of the most entertaining stories, even though it didn’t turn out as expected 🔥

Need conical wheels, they will keep you on track without the flanges rubbing constantly, the flanges are mainly to prevent derailing from turns and bumps. It will also reduce the stress on the wheels. Your best bet is probably to either weld some cones and the support structures or buy the specially made wheels. If you somehow got a hold of 4 of the right type of rims, you could cut them in half and they'd be pretty easy to mount. Some cheap go-kart rims would work.

I love that someone else was out there doing the same thing! I kind of wish this could become a whole industry for people who wanna chill and see some cool scenery.

Railway wheels have a conical profile to counter centrifugal forces at turns. Also it helps with improve the stability and tendency for the wheels to oscillate.

Maybe worth considering next time.

Am I the only one who was expecting a train to appear out of nowhere and smash into him, like in the old cartoons.

Finding another group of people who also built a go-cart train wearing top hats is the greatest plot twist ever 😂

this guy's friend is a true friend. He will not let him give-up, and continues to push on with him.

Ya know, they sell train cart wheels for way cheaper than that, even without switching to polyurethane. 3 minutes of searching, and I found a set some for $26 a pop on Zoro Select, and sets of 4 for a similar price elsewhere. I think you could redo this project with proper train wheels for less than the cost of replacing the engine. This is an awesome project, and it would be a shame to give up, when you're so close to success! One other idea: you could easily incorporate some friction brakes, applied either directly to the wheels, or to the track. One final thing to mention: it probably wouldn't be extremely difficult to devise a "reverse gear, " if you switched from a chain to a tensionable belt-based system.

You got to TRULY appreciate friends like that. Ones who don’t let you quit when you hit that unexpected wall. Mad respect

The BEST integration of a Sponsorship Ad I have EVER seen!
You should give lectures to other YouTube Creators on how NOT to piss off their loyal viewers!
Not ONLY do I feel more positive about the channel, but also about Shopify!!!

Absolutely do this again. I really want you getting to the impossible bridge, that would be epic. Also you should hit up any of the guys from the Safety Third podcast to help you with the engineery bits
