NTSB gives updated press conference on Kobe Bryant helicopter crash

The NTSB gave an update Monday on the flight path of the helicopter.

I live here, have hiked in the area. Local stations were on this immediately, talking to witnesses out and about who gave live accounts that they heard the copter, but could not see it above, suddenly the sound of One Big Thud, no explosion then came rising smoke. Copters are dangerous vehicles and conditions were terrible. Should not have been there. You'll hear details, but results do not change. The pilot could not see, was disoriented and slammed into the @t a speed over 150 per hr.

I abhore these press conferences only because all the politicians try to get their camera and face time in order to further their careers/futures.

NTSB ; _[our investigation] is to prevent a similar accident from ever happening again._ If only that were the case - the NTSB is so full of themselves. The investigation will almost surely conclude the AC encountered IMC meaning visual flight rules were not followed. This happens a lot around LA on overcast days, even the Sheriff's copters toss the rule book out the window. Fact. NTSB stop the special VFR permissions the copters use to scud run. That's a start.

Geez... It was pilot error. He flew into IFR conditions under Special VFR restrictions. Turned to get away/out of the fog, became spatially disoriented in the fog and flew into the ground at a high rate of speed.

So bush league that the faa doesn’t enforce the use taws, it’s absolutely bush league and disgusting that operators are even allowed to do so in this day, especially in mountainous environments. Plenty of safety bodies enforce taws in small passenger aircrafts. Not reactive, nor pro active.... should really be ashamed of themselves, the system likely really failed kobe, his daughter and the other passengers. Rest In Peace, this world is so messed up
