My girlfriend lived in this building on the fifth floor 4 years ago, so I've been in this neighborhood many times and it is pretty good and safe area, just 2 subway stops from Golden Gate, which is the center of the city. In my opinion the price for this appartment is reasonable, I would definitely live there

I grew up in Queens in NYC, and for 30 years hung out in the City (Manhattan) and simply took the Subway in. Even a 45-minute train ride wasn't too long. I highly encourage you to live a few metro stops away in a cost-efficient place to call your own, and simply take the metro in whenever you want to hang out with friends. You may even find some neat places near home without having to take the metro. Besides, you'd be living like a typical Ukrainian, walking and grabbing the metro. It's a simpler, more authentic life than living in the center of town where everything is a very short walk away.

Thank you Johnny for promoting Ukraine, you help us a lot in such tough times.

Looks ok to me - you just need a bed, bathroom and kitchen. As you say, ready to move in, so that is a win. And as you have walked around, you have found other amenities.

In 1941, in Babin Yar, the Nazi Germans shot civilians. There, 33, 771 Jews were killed and buried. And about 70+ thousand other nationalities (Ukrainians, Russians, Poles, etc.) In this place, there were bodies of more than 100+ thousand people. Approximately what the Russians did in Bucha and Irpen recently, but the ZSU did not allow them to do it on such a scale as in Babin Yar.

I've always been amazed that not very rich countries in Eastern Europe look so clean and beautiful, the people living there are polite and decent, but in rich Western European countries the houses are covered in graffiti, there is garbage on the streets and there are a lot of rude weird people who bother tourists. Take Naples in Italy for example - gorgeous architecture, beautiful sculptures, but graffiti and mold on the walls of the houses, falling plaster, garbage on the streets, strange people around the train station.

Wow, Johnny, these are my home turf! I live near Syrets metro, but tons of my friends lived/live near Dorohozhychi. Downsides: no big hypermarkets or major points of interest. Upsides: 3 large parks nearby, relatively quiet (if you know what i mean). During the entire war, there was only one serious missile strike on a residantional building (not counting the war’s start and the tower shelling). Prices here are slightly higher than in similar areas because you can get to almost any part of the right bank super quickly and conveniently from here.
I’m temporarily living at another place now, but if you have questions about these areas, I’m always happy to help.

WoW, even during war, the metro stations and the trains are so clean compared to the United States. Even the streets and the sidewalks are clean.

You cracked me when you read that metro station name. I rented an apartment with my friend as a fresh graduate in Dorohozhychy in 200x. We called it "Doroho zhyty" which means "expensive to live" in Ukrainian.

Hey,
I have some experience with living on this type of building
ofcourse depends of price
but super old apartments means super old communications, like water pipes and HVAC
have good luck with this !

I would pass on that apartment for two reasons. The bedroom is too small and that location will not be good for content with no coffee shops or restaurants etc to meet friends.

I like everything about the apartment as well as the neighborhood and supermarket. Regarding the bedroom, how about placing your bed with the back (where your head would go) toward the window?

Ukraine looks like a high trust society. Nice buildings like that museum are left open and there's no graffiti or hoodlums lurking around. Which place is safer for unattended stuff: Ukraine or Thailand? Housing in California is crazy expensive. That apartment would easily be $250, 000.

The apartment is good value and I think the problem with the bed might be solved by putting the bed head as close to the window as you can. If the door opens into the bedroom, can you switch it around to open out instead to give you more room?
I thought the neighbourhood was lovely. You can buy all the necessary items you need, as well as purchasing from the street sellers, which I know you enjoy doing. As you said, you can always taxi in and out if the weather is bad, if you have groceries to carry from the city or have been for lunch or dinner. It's all doable. I hope you hear about your offer soon and that it's good news.

Come back to Kharkiv. It's especially beautiful here in spring and all public transport is free. There's just one small minus - Russia is close 😁

Thanks for the upload. These streams are always intriguing. Regarding the apartment, the room sizes did seem a bit compromised, but it's very much a personal judgement on whether you can make them work. On the plus side, I was impressed at how quiet it was when you opened the window. I guess the main indoor features are the floors, ceilings and windows, and they all looked decent too. Heating shouldn't be an issue. With other apartments above and below, it should be economical no matter the brick type or insulation.

Not so appealing to me are the busy main roads, which seem to form the route to all local shops and facilities. I'm sure it's typical of the road and housing layout in Kyiv, but for me, that's a lot of traffic noise and exhaust fumes. The price seems very good though, so if you don't mind all the road activity, then it looked well worth consideration.

It would be interesting to know how the wartime power outages affect that block. Does your 200k apartment get preferential treatment due to the proximity of nice shops and restaurants, or is it similar across the whole conurbation? Also, if you decided to get a car, would there be reliable parking space for you and visitors?

When I spent some time in Kyiv about 9 years ago, I stayed in a Soviet flat on the left bank in the area called (roughly) Khryshatik. It's a manmade island that kind of separates the area from the more traffic prone areas but still has walking areas, markets, parks and restaurants for pleasant living. I could see the Lavra and the downtown area and wasn't far from Hydrapark and the Welded Bridge. The flat Johnny looked at had the typical Soviet layout but was remodeled nicely. The market was a typical neighborhood market too. I've been to that area to pay respects to my wife's ancestors in a huge cemetery near Babyn Yar. We rode the Children's train then but it seems the train station you showed was something new since we were there.

Johnny! Please go to the doctor and take care of your stuffy nose. It sounds like you are having difficulty breathing, and we hear this in each of your videos. I dont think it's allergies, because you have this in every country and in every type of weather. Please take care of yourself!! Sometimes, it sounds like you are struggling to breath. We want you to be healthy!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Johnny did you think of a murphy bed situation in the bedroom the bed a normal size when in use and up out of the way. Like compartmental use of room space. I couldn't tell unless I had been standing in the room. I like the kitchen similar to me of your last apartment kitchen. You could make it as beautiful as the last kitchen. You know what it takes to make it perfect for you. I am still almost at the end of the video. I liked the grocery store and vendors along the sidewalks of veggies. Thank you for sharing your journey. 🌄

In my opinion, your logic is sound to buy the place in the bedroom community. It looks like a very livable apartment and for a good price. It’s not a new neighborhood, but it looks clean and safe. Making an offer was a good decision!
