If you think about it, the axe is the better weapon in Kratos's eyes

The blades are literally a curse, he would get rid of them if they weren't bound to him

The spear was created just to kill heimdall, and probably reminds Kratos of sparta

Meanwhile, the axe is a memento from Faye, a person who Kratos loved and cherished.
Ofc the axe is his favorite when you compare the 3 lmao

The axe was bestowed upon him by his late wife. His wife saved him a lifetime of anguish and guilt by finding meaning in family. The blades were a cruel reminder of his past. That's why these were bound to him by chains. He may not be held down by the chains anymore, but it sure is never leaving him.

For Kratos, the Blade of Chaos is the weapon that he used to slay his family and committed countless atrocities. It is his greatest shame even if it earned him so many victories. It is also cursed, he can never get rid of it.

Meanwhile the Leviathan Axe is a gift from his wife that he uses in defense of his family. Will always be summoned by his command. The axe also symbolizes Faye’s promise that she will always be with her husband. Obviously, Kratos has a more positive investment in this axe.

The leviathan axe is awesome.. A close second is draupnir, the spear he gets later in the game.. Still can't get over how beautiful that forging scene was..

To be fair the axe is one of the few weapons willingly given by someone that Kratos did not maim or kill. A weapon free of his past deeds.

Leviathan Axe: Represent Kratos' present self as a changed man, a husband, a friend and most importantly, a father

Draupnir: Represent Kratos' future where he becomes the new All-father and a god that everyone love and pray for

Anyone who studies armed combat and weaponry feels exactly the same; if there was an ultimate weapon that could top every other choice regardless of circumstances, other weapons wouldn't exist in the first place. Kratos is a true warrior, even if his movements are a bit odd and unconventional when fighting
