Royal Family Celebrates the Birth of Prince William (1982)

On this day in 1982, Prince William was born. Diana, Princess of Wales gave birth to her first son at 9:03pm in the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. The official announcement, made by the attachment of a notice to the gates of Buckingham Palace, was greeted with scenes of jubilation on London's streets. Reporters interviewed an excited Charles on the hospital steps, and news that crowds were chanting "Well done Charlie, let's have another one" provoked an amusing response from the future King – "Bloody hell, give us a chance!"
