This scene really establish who Malone is. A true loner. No wife, no kids. Nothing but his job. Walking the streets alone like a lone knight guarding the city. Sean Connery nailed the character with this scene. Lone Malone.

The best scenes in film need no elaborate sets, no flashy special effects, no big name stars (although this one has them), but Good, solid writing, and a director who truly understands his craft.
Other good examples of this are the Indianapolis scene from Jaws, the Air traffic control scene from CE3K, and the army intelligence meeting from ROTLA.

I’m not sure what the uniform regulations were but it’s interesting Connery is old enough to be a Lieutenant or even Captain but he’s on patrol without even SGT stripes or any citations, which might indicate he isn’t the most well liked of officers
