If you want a good reason to not suggest a rolling release to a new Linux user this is exactly why, between updates of packages a PGP key expired forcing me to manually update the keys to peform a system update.

The nightmare begins when powering up your pc for work after system upgrade and getting stuck on "Loading intial ramdisk".

This is why I think CalamArch is the best thing that has happened to Arch. I mean something that breaks has to have a better way, easier way to re-install.

I've been told that if you haven't updated in awhile that you should update the keyring before an update. It will prevent crashing your system.

i just had this issue this week, nice timing lol

For me just installing keyring didn't fix it at all. Don't remember what I've done in the end, but I had run random keys updates, deletes of the packages and keys and other stuff for like 30 min... Yeah, I love rolling distros :D

I am using Manjaro ARM for Raspberry Pi 4 and I had to go into the pacman.conf file and it told me flat out what I had to init, which is different than what is here. Everything then actually fell into place and I was able to resolve the PGP issue. I found NOTHING on the instawebs that could resolve this. However, your hing on editing the pacman.conf file is what lured me in there. Thanks.

Clocks can surprise you sometimes. There was a bug (well, I'd definitely call it that) on MacOS where running on a laptop NTP updates would fail. I can't remember the exact mechanics of it, probably power-saving related, but I got over 30s out and my one-time password was too out of sync to log in remotely. Took about 30 minutes to think of the clock!

Has there even been a case where package repos where hijacked ? Maybe not the main server but a mirror maybe ?

This is still a problem with the arch iso and it’s incredibly annoying. You kinda just gotta try the fix and hope the OS doesn’t throw a fit and just keep rebooting till it works. I’ve even had to delete my vms and start from scratch to get it working. This is what keeps me from trying to install it on an actual machine.

I had one computer update without issue after updating the keyring. Another computer that's a dual-boot setup with ReFind lost it's entry in the refind startup menu, which is a bit concerning since refind usually will boot anything. I do believe there needs to be a better query into keyrings and whether they need updating before getting into this mess. Seems there's no reason why pacman can't discover a keyring problem and automagically decide to update the keys on the system (although admittedly this may create a serious vulnerability - outside my wheelhouse).

does this also work for a fresh install from iso image with 'pacstrap -K /mnt base linux linux-firmware'? have tries everything else and then removed the new virtualbox. spent many hours with error: openssl pierre...corrupted..something
