Is the Reshoring of U.S. Manufacturing a Myth?

My father worked in a factory from the late 30s to the late 60s.  He was able to buy farmland that allowed him to have additional income.  He was able to build a home, a very nice home with limestone, hardwood floors, real plaster and other nice amenities.  This was all from working in that factory.  Lots of his fellow workers were able to do the same thing.  I think people would still be willing to work in a factory setting if they could make enough money to be that successful, but its not that easy anymore.  My father didn't have the highest paying job(s) either, he started in assembly, than eventually ran a stamping press, then eventually he unloaded semis which was a very cush job as he basically worked by himself, but he got that from working there over 30 years.

Manufacturing should be done where it can be done most efficiently and saving the most money minus shipping costs and with taxes considered.
