Folding Knife Back Lock vs Liner Lock

Comparison video of two folding knife locking mechanisms - back lock & liner lock. Not overly technical, just explaining my experience and preferences. Knife locks represented in the video by Ontario Rat 1 & Spyderco Delica 4.

Thanks for the detailed info...was wondering about this when choosing which to buy but hadn't really researched it until now.

You can reverse the end of pocket clip on the Rat 1 if you wanted. I must own 50 + folding knives or all brands and for reasons I can’t explain, but I always seem to pick up the Rat 1. Great value. Great performance. Not a great looker (though not ugly) but it so easy to use and great blade profile. Never let me down.

lock back is good when you accidentally drop it out of the pocket on the concrete, it stays closed, other locks allways has to open and like sandwitch falls butter down, the knife edge hits the concrete...

Axis is my favorite, but I enjoy being able to own a variety of locks. Nice video.

i dont really have a locking preferance but another good option is just a small fixed blade -I like to use my RAT 3 or BK11 -also this avoids some Canadian knife law complications like flick blades gravity knives  etc.-not to mention a fixed blade will not close on your fingers -good video just thought I would share my current edc view

back lock is less likely to have an accidental closing of the blade, especially in a combat situation !

I’m a bit tardy to the party but my input is that lockbacks are better than liner locks when they’re brand new but wear a lot more over time. I have a spyderco Endura with the Emerson wave and it won’t stay open anymore after 2 years of daily use.

Oh and back lock is less strong in general. Only Cold Steel makes a really strong lock.
