How many of you are surprised to see us back in Europe?! After so many of you guessed we were moving to Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and other countries, we're sharing the happy news that we are back in Europe and ready to continue our overseas experience. We threw a few of you for a loop, didn't we? ;)

Our move to Italy has been a moment we've been preparing for since mid-June and now that we're finally here, we are so glad to be back. As we explain in this video, it's bitter sweet to no longer be in Japan, but the decision to move had many factors at hand and we ultimately want to extend our time overseas. We've loved exploring Europe and are looking forward to many adventures in the future!

I moved from California to Europe (Switzerland) for a job hoping to stay for a couple years. Well, s**t happens, and 38 years later I am still here and freshly retired!

Yeah! As a German I love Italy, of course! It's our friendly, relaxed, warm, beautiful, best espresso and pizza, pasta, wine- having neighbour. :)

Welcome back to Europe, we missed you. As a german with an Italian parent, I am sure you will love the Italian lifestyle. In addition, there is the sea, the beautiful alps and a wonderful culture. Ti auguro un soggiorno meraviglioso.

Going via Japan must be the biggest detour ever of any moves between Germany and Italy 😂

So happy for your family! Welcome back to Europe and have a great time in Italy. The one country with the most friendly and welcoming people in Europe and best food of course.

Oh wow, Italy! I didn't expect THAT!
Am I disappointed? Not at all! I am glad to see you back in Europe. And Italy is an awesome country which I love very much! Italians are such warm, welcoming and relaxed people imho! And I also love the language, though my skills in Italian are only basics. And I am quite sure you'll be as safe there as you've been in Germany.

You don't have to ask yourself whether you should have done something differently in the past. This is how I see it:
You have used the most favourable time of your life to explore the world. Favourable because, first and foremost, it would be very difficult to cope with the logistical challenges once you reach a certain age. Secondly, it becomes more difficult the older your daughters get. Willa starting school is a new and very important chapter in her life, and I think that also requires a little more stability than before. Changing daycare frequently is not very problematic, but school is a different story.

So it's been really good to have had the frequent changes when she was very young and you could now start to slow down the pace of your travelling. Italy is certainly a good place to be settled for a bit longer, I'm convinced of that.
Healthy food, the best pizzas, friendly and open people who love children, wonderfully diverse landscapes and last but not least... not that far away from Germany. (Just in case you ever have a hankering for German bread) 😉

The van will give you many advantages for short trips and the climate is much sunnier than in Germany. All in all, it sounds wonderful, and as beautiful and exciting as Japan is, it will be a relief not to have to struggle with foreign characters. Especially for Willa's school days.
I can really understand your decision and hope your move went smoothly. And I'm really looking forward to your next video!

Ha! I guessed Italy! We loved Italy whenever we visited! I’m so happy you are back in Europe! We lived in Germany for 13 years total and our kids loved living there. They went to DoDDS schools in Heidelberg and our two oldest graduated from Vilseck HS back in 2000 and 2001. We are going back to Germany in April for the first time since 2001 and I’m so excited! I’m so happy for you guys and, I’ll admit, very envious. I think the best thing you can do for your kids is travel the world so they see all the different cultures. Can’t wait to follow your new adventures back in Europe!
