When you are at the sandbox at the wrong time but are trying to line up the umbrella, corner of the sandbox, and apple core to determine location but none of the markers match whatsoever. LOL

The antlion will get stuck on the umbrella if you kite him under it.

In case if anyone was wondering how in the world you were supposed to figure this out by yourself, there is a small laboratory nearby which requires the Assistant Manager's keycard to open. Inside the lab, is a whiteboard showing exactly what you need to do, it's just somewhat hard to decipher.
It shows a desert with some cacti, alongside some strange shapes, a sparkling shovel, and a red X inside of one of the shapes. Next to all of that, is the sandcastle showing a treasure chest hidden underwater.
If you look around the desert part of the whiteboard, you will see what looks like an analogue clock without the numbers, and a smiling sun is near the "1 AM" position. That was around the time, upon a return trip, that I had an epiphany with all the giant shovels inside the sandbox.

Wait for the sun (Or moon, it also works at night) to cast a shadow through the plastic shovel's handle at a certain time, just like it was doing in the whiteboard, and it will show where you need to dig for the key. Take the key to the underwater treasure chest also depicted on the whiteboard, and voila!
