I remember watching the 1977-78 Canadiens and just being amazing at their individual talent AND team play. They only lost 10 games that year. Lafleur, Steve Shutt, Rejean Houle, Robinson, Yvan Cournoyer...even as a loyal LA Kings fan these guys were hockey gods to me. Rest in Peace, Flower.

I remember watching that as a kid and then jumping around the livingroom with my dad. Still gives me goosebumps. I hope he knew how much joy he brought! Merci, Guy!

R.I.P. Guy Lafleur. I will always cherish the memories of growing up watching you fly down the ice. You were a true gentlemen of the game and an A class player / team player. You were a living legend and now will go down in history as a hockey god. Maurice Richard and yourself were my all time 2 favourite Montreal Canadiens of all time!

Hockey had such character back then. The goalie masks. No helmets. I miss it.

A ticket to see the Habs play in the 70s at the Met Center in Bloomington, MN was a must. Twenty $$ for a seat in the front row at the red line - center ice. Didn't get any better than that. Hockey at its finest.

I seen Lafleur score 6 Goals during his retirement break around 1987 in an old timers game in the First 2 Periods and didn’t shoot in the 3rd period out of Respect. You could easily tell Guy was still NHL Caliber then the following year he was on his way back into the NHL..It was just like watching the Lafleur from the 70’s that night !.

RIP Guy Lafleur. My god you were a great hockey player. Like all the greats, what you could do with the puck while skating at that speed. Amazing shot.
I love these old clips. What really strikes me is as you are watching the play (with no ads on the boards), the amount of white ice visible and the plays and shots that are made. When was the last time in today's nhl you saw a player go down the right side, wind up and blast it into the net? Doesn't happen- no room or it just gets deflected.
Yes all sports "evolve". Players are bigger, stronger, and faster. To think that today's players are playing on the same size ice surface - and its terrible to watch. No playmaking to great goals like shown here. Guys are banging into each other, bashing into the goalie's, and in order to score goals, the game sometime's literally has to be played at a sideways angle. Its sad.
And sad about both Mike Bossy and Guy Lafleur. You were a class act Guy Lafleur, both on and off the ice.
