Breaking Down the Miami Marlins Rebuild and Top Prospects | Stat Stories

The Miami Marlins had a promising core of players around 2015, with an outfield consisting of Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich, and Marcell Ozuna. But when the team still couldn't make the postseason (and combined with financial trouble and low attendance), new ownership decided to blow up the roster. So let's see how the Marlins are doing a few years later.

In this video, I start by looking at how the Marlins lacked impact prospects prior to the rebuild. Based on the 20-80 scouting scale, the Marlins had just 3 prospects graded at 50 or above at this time. Now in 2020, that number is quadrupled.

Most of these young players were acquired via trade (and there were a TON of trades), but the Marlins have drafted well recently and even signed some promising international free agents. With so many young players, it's tough to determine who will be locked in at spots on the MLB roster in a few years. But I look at the Marlins top 5 prospects more in depth as they seem to have the most hype surrounding them.

Perhaps the most exciting part of this rebuild, is that all 10 of the Marlins top 10 prospects are going to be at double A or triple A to start the 2020 season. This franchise is just about ready to compete.

Hey Bobby, it’d be interesting to look at Billy Beane’s consistent trading of players like Josh Donaldson and Cespedes and what the A’s actually got out of the trades that he did. For a long time the A’s had a completely new roster basically every year. The fans hated it because you could never be attached to any players because the next season they were gone. It’s only in the last couple years that he hasn’t been trading our players away. I’d love some insight into it

You should do a video on how the Rays flipped one player (Delmon young) into years of talent that continues even today

Thank you for this. I’m a huge marlins fan and no one ever talks about their rebuild.

Misner is from my hometown, he played football in junior high and 9th-11th with my brother. He was the QB and left football to focus on baseball his senior year, lot of the team didn't understand then but now I think everyone realizes that was a great decision by him.

Had an idea. Maybe you could talk about the Dodgers and how they continue to have success (7 straight division titles) through disciplined trades, smart FA signings, and one of the best prospect development programs in the bigs. Love the vids!

Do a video on how the braves became a World Series contender while still having a top 5 farm system!

Can you do video about the rise of J.D. Martinez ever since he was with the astros?

You should do a video on the St Louis Cardinals' "devil magic" that a lot of people in baseball talk about, aka how they turn a lot of unheralded players into guys that help them go out and win

I really appreciate how well-done your videos are. I especially like how you take fan requests 😊

Wanted to start of by saying how much I love your channel. Cody Bellinger has been my favorite player in all of baseball since I started getting back into it, and hearing more about him in the minors. I’d love a video on his progression from a good rookie season in 2017, to slight drop off in 2018, to an MVP winning season in 2019. Keep up the amazing videos!

It would be interesting if you broke down the giants rebuild. They had a bottom five farm system for most of the decade but recently have shot up the rankings and are now top 10 according to mlb.com

Cool to see the hype for players who would form the core of a rising Marlins team. Even though Bleday didn’t work out and Sanchez hasn’t played since 2020 bc of weird injuries, Sanchez and Cabrera are solid starters and Chisholm is a star and easily the face of the team

Hey, great video, and being a Marlins fan it was interesting to watch but it feels like you missed some stuff. A big part of the marlins is many underrated average players that have just been added including Jesus Aguilar, Jonothan Villar, Corey Dickerson, etc. I feel these players will have a sooner impact than the prospects.
