Hey Jackie, long time watcher here, and I really have to comment about this box because I am a huge stationery nerd -- I don't know why you're disappointed with this set? It's an excellent stationery set IMO. You have gotten a lot of cute, fun, quality stationery items. You said you can't see the theme here, but there is a theme: this is all stuff stationery nerds like me salivate over for things like journaling, planner-keeping, lettering, and general day-to-day life stuff.

My partner and I love your channel so I say this as a fan and as a person with loads of respect for you: when you review stuff that doesn't interest you and give it a bad score or complain because you don't understand it, it doesn't feel good for those folks the stuff is made for. I wanted to come in just to let you know of the value of this set because it's a really good set -- absolutely amazing, actually.

Please consider the target audience for these products you review more when you review them; sometimes your reviews are unfairly slanted toward personal bias versus the quality of an item (even when you say you won't do this at the start of a video.) This has happened several times before but this is the first video I felt strong enough emotions to speak up. I know you care about us grains (and we care about you in return), so you don't intend to hurt anyone's feelings, but this video definitely stung a little, lol.

Maybe reviewing things that actually interest you for a while, rather than things that have gone viral, would be better? I know it might not get as many views, but you don't seem to enjoy a lot of the viral stuff because it doesn't pertain to your interests, which leads to a harsh take.

I do want to add that my household is still a fan after this video (I'm grumpy over some pens lol but I'm not going to unfollow you for it after all these years!) and we're always cheering you on and watching every video you produce! So I hope this comment doesn't offend.

I think jackie has forgotten not only what Japanese stationary stores sell but also that she’s reviewing a stationary box and not an arts and crafts box 😂😂

Got goosebumps from Jackie handling the fountain pen like a roller pen 🫣
Pelikan is a well known brand here in the Netherlands. And I actually had to learn to write with a fountain pen it was mandatory...the times I had an ink explosion 😅

It actually hurt a bit to see you destroy every single box of that beautiful calendar. I cannot believe that you have never used a fountain pen before! I hope you did not destroy it, the Pelikan pen was my favourite item. I also loved the cute little cleaning van!

I almost CRIED when you handled that fountain pen like that! Jackie, love, you handle fountain pens VERY gently.

I think the memo pad is a great addition to a stationary box, seeing as it is more geared towards someone that uses pens in an office type setting, and less so than someone that does art.

The pilot pen at 18:00 is made from recycled water bottles hence the water bottle like texture to it. I love those.

Jackie I enjoy your videos but this one was a little hard to watch. As someone who is an avid Japanese stationary lover and art supplies lover…this box was being unfairly judged.

The pen holder/cup is not meant for pencils…as stated by its name. There’s also a limit to how many pens it can store, the limit is also mentioned at the box. That’s why they come in a variety of sizes. They have some that can hold pencils but those are usually the taller ones. These are targeted for office workers who works on the go so that they can access their pens easily no matter where they are working.

The memo pad is one of the best memo pads for those who enjoy writing with fountain pens. In my country, life noble memo pads and notebooks cost upwards to 100 ringgit (approx. 21 USD), plus expecting a sketchbook from this box is a little out of theme.

Also Iwako erasers are really popular in Japan for avid stationary collectors as they have unique themes and sometimes they collaborate with other food/anime, and they can be quite costly too…

The Curidas is a cheaper alternative to the more expensive pilot capless or vanishing point. I personally own both pens are they are great for people who love fountain pen but wishes to have the convenience of not losing their pen cap or posting it.

I genuinely feel that maybe this advent calendar is not geared towards someone like you but maybe it’s more so for someone who journals or writes a lot.

I think the post is long enough 😅because I could go on forever as I’m someone who has worked and lived in Japan and still appreciates the stationaries there and pay a fortune in my country to access them.

Jackie, the pen case is specifically called a pen case because it was designed to hold pens, not pencils. Most pens are shorter than most pencils are when you first get them. That's why your pencils don't fit.

I feel this is 2023 version of the playdoh advent calendar.

I understand being 'salty' is the vibe and on brand for Nerdecrafter, but this was such a good stationary calendar. You can tell it'll be high end writing pens and more 'adult/plain' items due to the box style and the price!

And that notepad is perfe t for the pens? What good is a pen without a notepad...😅 and pleeease dont hold a fountain pen like that, way too much scratchy pressure!

I'm just a little confused at why Jackie was expecting art supplies or fun stationary since this is all high quality pens, which the box and description state that it would be. Stationary is not art supplies, so you're not going to get a sketch book haha. I personally love these brands, especially the Pilot G2!

Everything absolutely works together perfectly for a STATIONARY kit...😂 Shes doomed to hate it all but me as a writer i cannot wait. I am obsessed with pens because of writing and work requires them alot

Hey Jackie!
(I'm from Germany, where we used fountain pens at school and learned to write with them)
In the ink cartridge there is a small ball which you first push into the ink cartridge with the fountain pen (to open the ink cartridge and keep the ink itself liquid wich you did really good, considering you have never seen those pens before (you can shake it and the ball mixes the components of the ink again)) and you hold the fountain pen so that the silver side points forwards and away from you and the black side points towards you and therefore is closer to the paper. The ink comes out through the small slit at the very front of the fountain pen and after a little practice you can write and draw with it really nicely.
Love you and your videos!❤
(hope it helped😅)

I feel like you weren’t judging this too fairly. You bought a stationary box and then were upset it wasn’t mostly art supplies. But art supplies aren’t the same thing as stationary. As someone who is really into proper stationary, like pens, pencils, and erasers, this box looks like it has a fair bit of variety basically everything in their is high quality and something I’ve happily used before.

Copic Ciao markers are definitely refillable. They are less expensive than the Copic Sketch because they don’t hold as much ink, but they are refillable

Jackie: Today we’re looking at a stationary advent calendar!
Also Jackie: Why is this thing filled with so much stationary???

Hey Jackie,
The pale colours in Copic markers work well in blending transitions in tones when you are colouring. I find them essential. Another use is if you would wish to tone an area on a drawing, either making it brighter or knocking back the contrast, you may do so.

Hey Jackie,
Been a longtime viewer and this is probably the first time I've disagreed with one of your reviews. I think you definitely got your money's worth and as others have mentioned, it's a nice introductory set for different brands and stationary. I fell into the stationary rabbit hole late last year and love or know a lot of the brands mentioned in this video. The nice thing about Japanese pens is that a lot of them are refillable! Instead of throwing away the pen after it's run out of ink, you can purchase the cartridge refills for relatively cheap to encourage you to keep using the same pen. There are no rules about mixing brands either especially if you have a favorite pen body style but might prefer a specific ink formula (Ballpoint, Gel pen, Rollerball).
Fountain pens can range anywhere from a few dollars to a couple of hundred depending on the brand, materials and even the nib type. I can't blame you for feeling a bit intimidated by the last one because vanishing points are usually seen in more expensive pens and can be intimidating for beginners or people unfamiliar with how to clean and maintain them.

I was honestly disappointed with Jackie’s attitude in all this. She even says she loves washi tape and then unboxing it she’s sour about it
‘There’s no theme’ ‘it’s all stationery’ stationery is the theme. Stationery is pens, pencils, notepads, highlighters, sticky notes - sometimes cute and kawaii but this one wasn’t advertised as cutesy kawaii stationery.
What Jackie wanted was art supplies with some cutesy stationery that doubles as desk decoration built in but it’s not an art supply advent calendar.
and it is cohesive in the fact that you’re getting a sampling of the items you can purchase from that website. Single brand calendars typically will have a theme, websites that carry a bunch of different brands will have a sampling of their wares so you find what you like and go back and purchase from them
Idk sometimes when Jackie doesn’t like something off rip it feels like that’s it there’s no deciding otherwise. Like yeah it wasn’t the calendar you expected but maybe go back, read a bit more, realize what the calendar is and then judge it based off that rather than judging it as if it’s like a zen pop box

"please give me something artsy" pleads Jackie, mere seconds after opening a FOUNTAIN PEN. 😂

And TO BE FAIR, the "pencil case" actually called itself a PEN case, so it's specifically designed for PENS. Which I think makes it a little unfair to criticize it for not fitting pencils. It wasn't designed for that!

I'm pretty into the whole Japanese stationary scene, and this is not only EXACTLY what I'd expect from a set like this, but also honestly a PHENOMENAL advent calendar! There's two freaking fountain pens in there! And one is so fancy it's nearly the cost of the entire box!! This is exactly the sort of variety I'd be hoping for with a box like this. Some markers, some pens, some pencils, some accessories... Not to mention TWO freaking fountain pens, one of which is the type people would make whole videos reviewing, and you didn't even try it because you're too unfamiliar with fountain pens! 😩

Jackie, you just weren't the target audience for this, and that's okay. But that doesn't mean it's bad. I'm the target audience and I would be ecstatic opening this, and every single item would be thoroughly used.
