Ever wanted to sidechain your bass but not the alter the mid and top range?
In this video, I show you 2 ways to achieve this effect.
It's a more advanced method of side chaining which can be much more transparent when used correctly.

Headphones: Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro (I exclusively use Beyerdynamic and recommend the whole DT Pro Range - Made in Germany)

Peak controller is one of those secret lethal weapons. Is useful for a lot of stuff and this is one of those. Another way to do this is linking the pregain knob of the low band in Maximus.

Another plugin can you use is fabfilter pro-c2 and select frequency from 20-125hz, very fast attack & fast-medium release and treeshold around 18db so it will sidechain only on low frequency.Your kick will never clash again with you sub, if you want sidechain all low frequency you can move until 200hz

Other plugins great to sidechain are : fabfilter pro-mb, waves factory spacers

Nb : main feature you need to know about sidechain is frequency selecting, you can select what frequency you want to sidechain, this really important especially when you want sidechain your drum loops (where inside of patterns are include kick, snare, hihat, ride, percussions) you only want sidechain chain your low right? So frequency selection feature is really important. Try it 🙌🏻 cheers

You can also link peak controller to reverb. The reverb will go to zero if a new note is playing and the reverb will automatically go up again after the note has played. Really cool.

Your videos are always top notch Michael. I've actually done this technique recently on the high end frequencies of a reverb applied to a snare. It gave the snare a bit more body without the full reverb coming through.

Thank you Michael for this Sidechaining Tutorial. For a while now, I've only been using Automation to sidechain my Kicks to my bass, but this video has helped me realise there's other methords I could use to get cleaner results.

I don't know what to say bro... Thank you so much for teaching me all these FL Studio tricks. I had no idea this was possible (the 2nd trick). The video is about sidechaining, but, to me, the most valuable thing that I learned is what the FL peak controller does and how you can link parameters to controllers.
Thanks to your videos, i'm becoming less and less scared of all the settings that seem so complicated and that I did not understand.

I love your channel.

You’re awesome for including that very last part. Welcome to the real world. Excellent tutorial. BTW I’m 70 and just getting interested in all this very confusing stuff but I ain’t quitting.

This was extremely helpful because I used to just outright sidechain the kick and bass and it felt kind of overwhelming. I'll definitely be playing with more of the controllers. Thank you.

Thank you for explaining specifically where to insert the units. You inspired me to get FL studio and make music again. I also acquired serum yesterday. Music feels exciting again.
I appreciate your contribution and more importantly, the consistency and clarity in your approach. Have a happy Christmas!

You can also use this technique if your snare's fundamental frequency isn't quite standing out in the mix. Thank you for uploading this technique, I've been using it for 3 years and I'm glad you're showing it to more people :)
