Personally, I think it's done to let out some frustration

It’s mostly for realignment. Also timing; if you get down the timing for how long the mini turbo takes to charge, you can release without having to react to the blue sparks. I know for some players the rhythmic back and forth of the of the shimmy helps them time the MT charge.

I forget all the little details but there was a study about things like this where gamers will “stim” while waiting for things, whether that be destroying the waiting room, practicing headshots on your teammate, or doing a little shimmy while your boost charges

There are 2 actual purposes as someone who has played this game online in comp for a fair bit. First is just bc ur pissed you got hit lol which happens to all of us. The 2nd (which isn't really shown in this clip) is when you're on a section where you can easily get shroomed off, people rotate sideways to avoid getting bumped off when they're sitting still and charging their ssmt. This is most commonly seen on sections like BC3 ending and DKM bridge

I think i do it because im not throwing my wii remote at a wall like a certain person

Correction: A standstill mini-turbo is faster if your acceleration is less than 31. The reason people use it is because Funky Kong Flame Runner and Daisy Mach Bike both have acceleration worse than 31.

We do this for realignment and we flick the stick left and right as a way to count up to the 1.15 seconds. So we don't waste time when it is there but dash off as quickly as possible

The main reason I’m shimming is usually to adjust the direction I’d be heading/also to make sure I am in the state to get the miniturbo, cause sometimes I feel like it ate my input and I’m standing still for no reason, even though it doesn’t. So it helps me check a bit

this is literally just
“come on come on” *jiggling joystick*

Nah it's obviously rng manipulation

I just do this because people 10 years ago told me it's faster to do this and i just never bothered to actually test it.

As a player on the competitive scene, I can confidently say that the tilting is mainly for timing. Reaction time takes a second seat to muscle memory, and so having a pattern to get you close to the correct timing allows you to tighten it down to almost instantaneous release (rather than watching for the blue sparks and "reacting")

Realignment is one reason why you do the ssmt. Another reason could be that you get minimal forward momentum while performing an ssmt, however its so small that this is more of a fun fact than actually useful to know

Sometimes harmless myths just become tradition

SSMTs are only faster if your acceleration value is below one of the lowest thresholds (according to an outdated chart, the minimum is 31/80 acceleration).

I personally like to think of it like Melee Dashdancing, the purpose of it giving movement mix-ups. Shimmying like this allows you to choose the direction you want to boost out on without clearly telegraphing your choice to onlookers.

I think the tilting is done to release the SSMT as soon as possible. They probably practice the SSMT shimmy until they know when to release just when the SSMT is charged
