I recently made about 80 pounds of my own substrate blend for 50 dollars by sourcing hardware stores and researching which soil ingredients would be safe. just bake before use and you can even pour in bioactive bacteria and bugs, but basically I have a reed ledge peat topsoil, high desert play sand, charcoal, and sphagnum moss mix with some worm poop and other composts in tiny amounts. It's about 35-40% sandy, and can add clay in. This will last me a lifetime of digging substrate and sits inside a 15 dollar bin. total cost 60 dollars for the equivalent of 30 bags of the expensive stuff, which is rarely even sold for a true leopard gecko highland arid semi desert blend.

Is the sphagnum moss really okay? I thought that for real plants/dirt, it was better to buy things cultured specifically for reptiles (or dirt that has been treated/baked) so that you know it's safe.

Everything is great tips except for the lowes bedding, it could be treated with all kinds of chemicals so i would look for a cheaper pet brand online!

Ikd if petsmart dose price match but I know petco DOES! I got my jumping spider enclosure for more than half off, they wanted damn near $40 for a 4x4x5 enclosure and I went to amazon and i found the SAME exact thing for only 18 bux! ALWAYS ask, if they price match. You can $100s by doing it

How do I set up lighting for my 10-13 y/o leopard gecko?

My sister just gave him to me and he’s been in a 40 gallon tank with 10 y/o reptile carpet, 3 little huts, 1 plant, and calcium bowl and a water bowl. He has a red heating lamp in his enclosure and this is my first time taking care of him. He seems pretty antisocial and doesn’t like to leave his moss hut at all. (Which is under his lamp) She told me to leave 12 large crickets in his enclosure every week so he can eat them over time.

Based off of some of your videos this seems to be all wrong. Can you tell me what I need to do? I’ve had him for 1 1/2 weeks now.

I need help. My baby bearded dragon use to be fine with me holding it. But then he randomly squirms when I'm trying to pick him up. On the internet it says it means he is uncomfortable, but he lets me pet him on his back. I tried lifting up his neck to make him want to grab on. I was also careful with his nails, but it still was a failed attempt.😕
