Did you know that Wayne Newton had ties to the mob and that he really likes exotic animals? Decades ago, Wayne Newton was one of the most popular performers on the Las Vegas scene. Despite the success that he has seen in his career, he has never been very good with money. Wayne started facing serious financial difficulties in the 1980s, and he’s still struggling today. Thankfully for fans, this hardship makes it so that the 80-year-old singer is still actively performing, though he’d probably prefer to be taking it easy.

According to legend, Wayne Newton began performing professionally when he was only 6 years old. By the time he was an adult, he was talented enough that he was able to make a name for himself as a solo crooner. Over the course of his career, the singer has found the majority of his success in Las Vegas. During his early years, he was content with being a performer on the stage. However, by the 1980s, Wayne decided that he wanted to become the owner of his own hotel. Sadly, when he made the decision, he didn’t take his lack of business skills into consideration.

In order to gain control of his own hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Wayne had to rely on mob connections. Owing money to the wrong people didn’t prove a good choice for the singer’s finances, and neither did falsify his income reports to the IRS. Over the course of the 1980s, Wayne went broke due to all of the money that he owed. In 1992, he filed for bankruptcy. In the decades since, the singer has barely managed to stay afloat. Wayne can still be caught performing today at the age of 80 due to the fact that he needs to make as much money as possible in order to pay off his debts. Join Facts Verse as we look at how Wayne Newton is doing after losing all of his money.

As a young man visiting Vegas in the early 80's I went to a Wayne Newton show, wasn't a fan or anything but gave it a try, the show was just stunning, the talent he showed and special effects were simply amazing, a great memory!

What I get from this is Wayne loved to live large but ultimately beyond his means. He's had quite a life and he's still singing. I wish him the best.

When I worked as a chauffeur, I had Wayne Newton for a couple of days . I picked up him along with his wife and daughter and some family members in a SUV . He chose to ride up front with me and was very nice. After a show at Lindenwood University, I told him that it was a great performance and that if he kept it up he might have a future in show business. He and the others had a good laugh . It was fun and I must say I've never seen hair that black before. Good times.

Wayne is exactly what he is - very little pretense. I saw him in LV and he was an amazing showman. I went to see him kind of as a joke, but it turned out I really liked him and all I can say, he was great. Keep going Wayne

The man is talented and a hard worker and I don't call $50 million dollars broke. More power to him, I always liked him.

I met him once in person, through a friend, after one of his incredible, transcendent shows at the Sands. Being in the audience, in the moment, made me extra happy to be alive to witness his energy and star power. When he talks to you, you have his complete attention, and his follow-up questions are spot on. It was unbelievable. He was a total gentleman. I wish him and his lovely wife well, and thank him for his electrifying shows that, surely, are in a league of their own.

Hang in there Wayne ! I lived in Vegas for two years long enough to buy a house and get divorced. I was broke, drunk and destroyed . I depended too much on other people . That was 2000 I have fallen again but today life is better what doesn't kill us makes us stronger . Love you in Vegas vacation 😊

A very close friend of mine was next door neighbors of Wayne before he became a star. Said he was always over his house growing up. Said he was very respectful all the time.

I met Wayne Newton when he came to Lemoore's casino TACHI and gave a concert. At the End of His performance He came to the front and said a life changing statement . He said : Thank you for your LIFE !!
The room stayed silent for a few seconds because everybody Started to Thik what does Waye Mean? Then he explained. He Said: You Have given me 2 hours of your time, and time is not replaceable. Your Time is your LIFE !!!
Therefore you gave me part of your life and I appreciate that!!
This statement of Wayne Newton was a big eye opening for me. I No Longer say : The Time is not going by fast, I'm bored. !!!
Since Then I have been Managing and Respecting Time as Best As Possible! TIME is Life And I never wish to waste It anymore. So Thank You Dear Wayne!!🙏

Mr Newton has always been an incredible showman. If a person has had the opportunity to see one of his shows…how special that would be. God has blessed him with incredible talent and a beautiful family! ❤

I have seen Mr Newtons shows at least 4 times. I will never forget seeing him at Branson on my 60th birthday. We could not find the theater but show was held up at least 30 minutes so did not miss a thing. How happy to find out we weren’t late. I have been a fan since seeing him on Ed Sullivan and said; THERE IS A STAR WAITING TO HAPPEN. Never fails to entertain. Love you Wayne.❤❤

Wayne claims his daughter from his first marriage was once threatened with kidnapping unless he paid up first. When the Las Vegas police refused to do anything he turned to "special friends" in Vegas to make the threat disappear. This is how the rumors of his mob ties began. BTW, he is extremely generous and has helped numerous residents of Vegas down on their luck.

I've been a big fan of Wayne's since I was a little kid. Have seen him live several times. He ALWAYS puts on a great show. Whatever is going on in his personal life he doesn't let it affect his shows.
