It's quite possible that the drain was far less. My opinion is that doing the software update perhaps muddied the waters. Those updates can take up to 45 minutes, engage the CPU and possibly the cabin cooling. Lastly, it woke the car up. It's possible the drain would have been up to half! Anyway, good test even still. Thank you for the content.

Joy, it's even better in a garage. I left mine in my garage for 3 weeks, unplugged, only lost 4%.. in 3 weeks! During summer in Vermont.

I have just left my 23 MYP for 29 days and only lost 2%. The car was covered in a condo building parking lot with sentry mode off. So easy, I just pulled the cover off the clean car and drove away. Stored at 58%. DON'T store these cars at a high state of charge!

I just came back from korea after 21 days. So it’s a no problem for my model 3 highland. A drain of about 10% so far. With sentry on.

I recently left my model Y for two weeks while away and it only lost 3% during that two weeks. That was without Sentry mode. Another time with Sentry on it lost 40% in only one week

Good info. I had my MY covered 'sleeping' for several months and it was fine. I live in a condo like you so I had it covered to protect it.

Sentry Mode is not enabled though... I think Tesla said they'd eventually release an update to reduce Sentry Mode drain? Not sure if that happened.

I have a 2024 M3LR. After two weeks of travel, leaving my car in sleep mode, and truly not messing with it (like performing an update), the battery drain was 2%.

Nice. Sentry does use a lot of juice.

Hi Joy, I really enjoy your videos, thank you so much! I have found that the only major drain seems to be around enabling sentry mode. Other than that, I have not experienced major drain over a 1-2 week period, maybe less than 5%.

Thanks so much. I went to Taiwan this past summer for 35 days and left my Tesla with my parents primarily due to the concern with battery drain. I was seeing daily drain close to >1% which I thought was due to Sentry mode. My parents took the liberty to drive my car all over the place instead of their new EV and ended up going to Tesla Superchargers 3 times to use my bonus 5K miles that I got when I purchased my Tesla Model YLR. They have solar and a level 2 charger at home. I love your channel and your content.

An interesting test so thanks. The sentry feature is important though as the car wasn’t secured so I would enable it. Even still 1-2% per day for 17 days is still workable given a reasonable initial charge level. Cheers

Nice test. Looks like you parked the car under mild temperatures. Wonder what the result would be at freezing temperatures

Thanks for posting this. I alway enjoy your videos. 😀

It has been a while since I have seen a phantom drain test video, and I haven't parked my own cars unplugged since COVID hit. This is a great result, Tesla does it again with this app update. 😎

Hi new MY owner here…what’s the consensus on battery usage leaving the car for 14 days with Sentry on? And recommended battery % to leave it with? Thanks. Great video !

Good info! It’s encouraging to see how little phantom drain is happening, and very thoughtful of you to use your time away from the car to measure this. One small observation, several times you referred to your Tesla as “idling” which is technically correct, but maybe confusing to people who don’t own EV’s. Because cars that run on gasoline are running when they are idling, I think it would be less confusing to say your Tesla was “parked” or maybe just “idle.” I personally own a non Tesla EV, and the most awkward thing to get used to is that the car doesn’t have an “off” switch. It’s been weird to park the car and walk away without knowing if it’s on or off. This can be made even more confusing because as you approach the car it wakes up, and turns on the lights at night, sometimes I wonder “Has this been running the entire time I was away?”
