K C & THE SUNSHINE BAND Give It Up SINGLE VERSION

This is a glorious piece of pop/dance/funk from 1983 and the last major success for K.C & The Sunshine Band. Having blazed a trail for disco in the mid 70's, K.C managed to salvage a couple of big ballad pop hits in the 1980's once disco had been driven asunder; but 'Give It Up' was reminiscent of the best of the previous decade's sounds whilst also propagating the new ingredients that would make synth pop and dance music really groove into the next decade or two.

A huge success in Britain (and why Harry Casey travelled to England to appear on Top Of The Pops - seen in this clip) and downunder too, where K.C had been chart mainstays for several years earlier. 'Give It Up' spent three weeks atop the English chart and made #3 in Australia after its late September debut; spending 23 weeks - some 6 months, until March of 1984.; the very month it finally reached its peak in America - #18. The record label was reluctant to issue the song as a single, but eventually acquiesced and it became K.C & The Sunshine Band's final hit in that market.

This is the 7 inch length version which has been boosted and tweaked and I've re-edited the Top Of The Pops performance to accommodate this full length track. Harry was very cute back in the day and his dance moves were impressive!
