Organizers have suggested Distant Worlds 3 for Elite Dangerous may now be a possibility, and are looking for feedback and interest. DW1 and DW2 were the largest events in Elite's history and a third could be a very big deal.

I have two full playlists of exploration content on my channel heading out to Beagle Point and back for my third time which took many months to complete, and after I got back I bought a fleet carrier in anticipation of doing a Deep Space Carrier series, but I just couldn't bring myself to go back out again. This isn't because I'm not an explorer; quite the opposite. I grew up on Star Trek and the idea of finding super cool things out in the galaxy appeals to me.

The issue for me is that there just isn't enough content out there to justify making long journeys to distant destinations outside of just the "prestige" of having gone out that far, which frankly isn't nearly as impressive as it once was. Dedicating months to that singular goal just isn't worth it to many of us. For a Distant Worlds to attract a large number of people, there really needs to be a massive exploration related expansion to justify a commitment of that magnitude.

I did the DW2 in its entirety and it has been one of the most memorable moments in gaming for me. will try to join DW3 also. great that you still report on Elite. Thank you

Colonization could make this very interesting. The goal could be to colonize closer to the center of the galaxy or something and build a new bubble that is one hundred percent player built. You could also build out refueling stations in systems along the way to create a sort of highway to the new bubble. It could also serve as the launching point for further exploration.

Been playing ED since 2015, missed out on both DW1 and DW2. There's no way I'm not joining DW3 if it happens.

I've been following your channel for years, I love your videos and hope you'll never stop making them. o7

I'm a veteran of DW1 and DW2. The possibility of a DW3 has been something I've wanted for years, and have already pitched an idea to the forum thread about what could make it unique.

I had the fortune to participate in Distant Worlds 2 and it was absolutely amazing! Count me in for DW3! Saw breathtaking sights, met a lot of new friends, and stamped my name as discoverer and mapper for systems and planets for all of time. And did it all in VR! For me, the expeditions are the pinnacle of Elite Dangerous.

As a player who got to Elite late(2021) and on console first (now PC) Im buzzing to get on this DW3 trip. Roll on DW3

I think the only way Distant Worlds 3 would be made truly interesting is if Frontier gave us atmospheric planets to explore. To be able to traverse such planets would massively shift the interest of everything - being able to goto planets with different atmospheric environments would be quite something to see - a gauntlet of extreme hot, extreme cold, and Earth-like worlds.

Cool to hear Drew Wager being willing to write a narrative record of the DW3 if it happens! I don't recall if Player owned Fleet Carriers yet did they? That might bring an interesting aspect to the events. I think some of the scanning of surface points and plants was just new in the game at the DW2 event. I know that Fdev offered ship stickers for the participants of those events too. that would also be an incentive to participate.

For people who missed the first two this seems like a great idea, though I'm wondering if there's even enough variety in planets to keep people interested the whole time. Everything's pretty samey geographically now.

5:10 - RIP Horizon's Planet Tech. I was grinding up for the hope of that DWE3, too. When that stopped, I quit playing (until recently this year). Sadly, it's still not great. Maybe this is the acceptance phase.

Thanks for the update. Regardless of my feelings, news of a DWE3 is huge. I'll have to start prepping a ship.

I was there for DW1 (Traveller_GG in Elite), a rock rat, there with Frawd Digger (1st Sidewinder to Beagle Point), one of the first to Beagle Point myself (my spawn is all OVER the Northern edge of the Galaxy!) but I've not played Elite in years now... with all the changes I'd be like a new player coming back...

However: the experience of DW1 was something else, not sure if it can ever be repeated with all the advancements in the game, but the camaraderie experienced during that trip was quite possibly the best experience I have ever had playing online games.

Digging out the stories that spawned and the massive number of videos we could share in - and breaking the game when we did a 111 ship jump at Sag A* (I think we got told off for that).

Anyone thinking about it: just do it. There will be fun and shenanigans for all :)

I had started my circumnavigation of the galaxy just before Distant Worlds 1 started off so couldn't join it. I remember turning up at Beagle Point two days after they all left. I must say they had cleaned up nicely after themselves and not even left any footprints in the sand :) I watered the plants and continued on my way. They returned home before I made it back. I did that journey with an Asp kitted for exploration and with no engineering and before neutron star boosts were a thing. I miss those days of limited jump capability.

Thanks for spreading word about this, as well as continuing to put out great content!

I absolutely want to see DW3 take place, and I would be there with one of my ships-of-the-line! DW2 was a huge deal for me, and I wrote a series of short stories as sort of a "travelogue" to document my journey. I can't imagine I wouldn't do the same thing for DW3, except this time I might take footage of my exploration and maybe narrate it.

What I'd really like to see is another mining-driven community goal like DW2, maybe put a station at Beagle point, or maybe out in the "Star Trek Delta Quadrant" where player charting/exploration is lower than the rest of the galaxy. It'd increase the likelihood of new expeditions and maybe make new discoveries! More importantly, if Frontier really is on board to get more involved this time, this expedition could turn out to be something really special.

Greetings Ant! Thank you for the heads up - and for staying with Elite and sharing through your videos. I have been on hiatus from Elite mostly since DW2, but I would consider coming back for this. The community around exploration and player driven events and expeditions was what I enjoyed most about this game. I took part in DW1 and DW2, helped organized some player events (exploration wings and formation flying) during those expeditions and also poured my enthusiasm and countless hours into the Galactic Mapping Project. Those were REALLY good times :). The prospect of having to grind to get the jump range of my old Asp Explorer on par with the modern ships is a bit of a turnoff though... ;). But his is something I would consider taking part in - even if it means limping along in an antiquated vessel that I have stuck with since the launch of the game :).

Biggest difference is FC: back in the day, when you went into the Black, there was nothing in front of you, civilisation was behind, you FELT alone, but now, there will always be a FC somewhere in front of you, civilisation is "all around", and while this is obviously a major plus for explorers, it also completely changed the feeling exploration gave you, and that is a major minus.

DW2 was my first time leaving home. It was a big adventure, for sure. The community interactions showed that the social aspect is uniquely wonderful. I met people whose squadron I joined and I've been with ever since. True friendship was made.

Thanks for sticking with Elite OA! Lots to love about the game, but there simply isn't enough atmospheric planetary variety at the moment. Every planet bound mission has the same look. Here is hoping that the next updates center around biome diversity.
