You didn’t really explain their purpose, I can infer a bit with the name though. Can you describe their basic function?

I am using a soundblaster Z, I like it for the optical out which does both Dolby digital and dts Digital surround which I output to my Logitech z906 speakers, I plan to upgrade to a newer sound blaster at some point as I have yet to find another brand that does all the same things without being ridiculously expensive

i would like to have one but the price is more in line with audio enthusiast. my lil dac-amp with simple tuners is good enough

I got one for my high end setup. Its way better than Realtek included sound, and its pretty much the cheapest component in my system.

Also gives me tons of extra options for my audio.

I use a DAC instead. Perfect for my headphones and I can use the rca outputs for my speaker amp. Lets me have both whenever I want

Planning on getting an AE-9 soundcard.

I use an audio interface - my microphone needs it and the general sound quality is better (less noise!). After that i have an analog mixer to merge more sources before stuff goes to my stero or my headphones.

I would say I might consider someday a card with a great deal of channels that could be useful for something such as an organ synthesizer, meaning Haupwerk. High quality dual channel digital to analog converters are expensive, internal pci cards that are good options are hard to find and most people use external (usb) sound cards (mostly for input). I believe if they were to make a great internal pci card that could exceed current external sound cards, and they do a great marketing concerning it's advantages over all other cards (which are USB), I believe they could get a better market.

Furthermore, current internal 8 channel cards should be better than any other digital-to-analog system for a great hometheater with good monitors. Then again, I can't tell for the time being. Specs would need to be checked and compared, and some famous audiphiles would need to provide their subjective point of view, most of which are more into dual channel for headsets.

Sound cards are awesome, but only for audiophiles with supporting equipment really. Forgetting entry-level cards because they're useless, a high-end sound card delivers insanely high fidelity and data-rich sound. But just like how a 4090 ti is absolutely useless with a single 1080p 60fps monitor, sound cards are useless unless you have some serious equipment capable of relaying audio this high of quality.

Why would i run a soundcard when i can run a dedicated amp and dac. Sound cards are often more expensive than a quality amp and dac combo, and they dont sound as good.

No. All I need from my computer is a digital audio output, which most motherboards have, if not, they have usb. I use a dac amp instead. Got it for 39€. Cheaper and arguably better.

@cravengameknight949 they provide a high quality audio processing and output. Most soundchips on mainboards were....and still are garbage in some aspects. While the sound quality massively improved in the last years with on board chips, they still don't have the output power for big sound systems. You want to drive a 5.1 system with an 450W subwoofer? Good luck with any mainboard chip. Either they don't have enough power to give you decent bass....or you fry the chip immediately.
