Atheist Attempts to Rewrite History!

The Historian Tom Holland wrote an influential book, "Dominion," where he argued Christianity was heavily responsible for the values we have in the modern world. The online atheist community was greatly upset by this book. The youtuber Mister Deity decided to try and debunk it and that attempt did not go well. We evaluate many of his claims and show how bad his response to Holland is.

Yeah, "Mr. Deity" might have a point if Tom Holland didn't spend literally his entire book tracing the evolution of those very ideas through Christianity. It's not like Holland just said "Oh yeah, it was all pretty bleak and then BOOM, Christians brought us the Enlightenment from out of nowhere!"

When Bill Maher did his Religulous movie, he was just ignorant, he didn't put much effort into studying and lives in a steel-clad bubble. But this guy is just trolling

It seems that many of these "Christianity Debunked" creators all follow the same script. Always out of context; haven't read the material; rely on second- and third-hand opinions that are also out of context and failed to read the material; ignore research and authorship that contradicts their opinion; resort to ad-hominems; etc.

Tom Holland is right about that Christianity gave us our values, and it's so obvious that I don't need his book to tell.

I love how atheists insist consensus until it's inconvenient. The rise of humanism is inseparable from Christianity. Literally the standard texts and primary sources used in Renaissance history classes are Christians like Erasmus, Mirandola, Dante, etc.

At some point, we need to stop being "fair" with reddit-type net atheists like Paulogia and Mr Deity.
They need to be called out for being deceptive posers and pseudo-intellectuals arguing in bad faith.

Mr Deity calling the book "Dumminion" is really about as mature as him saying he went poo-poo in his diaper after nappy nap time.

Mr Deity says that Seneca says 'Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful'.

That is quoted in 'What Great Men Think About Religion' (1945) by Ira D. Cardiff, and no original source for this has been found in the works of Seneca.

It is likely that the quote originates with Edward Gibbon who wrote:

'The various modes of worship which prevailed in the Roman world were all considered by the people as equally true; by the philosopher as equally false; and by the magistrate as equally useful'.

— Edward Gibbon, 'The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire', 1794.

If you are going to rubbish someone's credentials as an historian it is best not just to splurt out internet quotes. It took me a couple of minutes on Google to find out about the above. That's called research.

Love how people get mad about the Spanish Conquistadors. Yeh they did horrible things…mostly to horrible cultures. There weren’t hippies they conquered. They were slave empires practicing about every form of brutality and violence available. The rate of intermarriage and adoption of colonial languages to facilitate intertribal communication are also good indicators that it wasn’t all brutal subjugation.

One of the other things that bugs me about how many Atheists argue is they assume that every Christian is a perfectly pious individual, perfectly executing the will of God in their individual lives, then point to the fact that *no* Christian is a perfectly pious individual and say "Aha, see! It's all a lie!" Meanwhile, the Christians are all sitting there saying "I'm a flawed individual... a sinner, saved by grace, because I cannot be perfect on my own and I need Christ to be my righteousness."

I really cant understand why so many athiest say Christianity stole from Judaism. Unlike islam and mormanism, who say the previous religion was corrupted and then bring a whole new religion claiming it to be the original, Christianity affirms all of judaism and expands on it. All while keeping continuity

He seems to think Tom Holland is a Christian, and the claim that he isn’t an historian is bizarre given that his multivolume history of the Roman Empire is considered the most definitive of our time

Tom Holland is doing history.

Mister Deity is doing propaganda.

I feel like there's some Marvel joke to be found in temu James Gunn responding to non-Spiderman Tom Holland

It has been my experience that Humanists actually understand very little about how humans work...

Also needing mention is the lay Catholic German resistance and the number of clergy in the concentration camps.
