I Explored Hitler's Eagle's Nest

When visiting Salzburg I took a day to go and explore the Eagles Nest. I think it was worth it :)

When visiting Salzburg I took a day to go and explore the Eagles Nest. I think it was worth it :) Any of you guys been?

Salzburg is so beautiful, I still wanted to my footage I took there into some sorta video.

I've been up in the Nest twice. The first time (circa 1983) took the bus up and then walked down the road the buses took with an Army buddy. It was an adventure that took all afternoon and evening. We stayed on the mountain road for most of our trek but started bushwacking when it started getting late. We found a hidden, cliff facing cave that was 20-30 meters deep and contained a winch mechanism and a big wheel (which I've learned is now gone - I can only imagine it was pushed out and is now in the valley below). We found odd concrete foundations - some fairly large - in the woods and there is a tunnel leading into the mountain from the one main road tunnel that doglegs (right in the angle part of the tunnel) that we chose not to explore (one crappy Bic lighter was our only "torch").

Honestly, this is a great video. I've seen photos, read some of the history on it, but never actually watched a video walking the grounds. Thx IronArm.

I was up there at the beginning of September! Absolutely beautiful weather and an unbelievably incredible view. I had the schnitzel and a beer at the restaurant.
