I can't believe the DOT even allows this in a modern day car....I would hate to be a person trapped in such a car without power in an emergency situation.

I lost a friend who was a talented lawyer because of this car. He had an accident while sitting in the back seat and a fire broke out, but he could not escape. He probably couldn't open the door, but since the fire started in the front of the car, escape through the front seat was impossible.

This has been proven countless times that could have killed people. Almost in all serious car crashes emergency services were unable to open the door.

Thanks for sharing. What are the options if you 12v battery dies. And you in the outside and worst case scenario you have your kid or pet inside and is super hot ? What are my options.

What if the car is flipped on the driver side? Can you do the same from the front passenger door? And, what if the seatbelt is jammed?

There's absolutely NO reason not to have a more obvious manual release tab (like the front doors) built into the rear doors. I appreciate the video and your attempt to educate people about this car. I'm considering buying a Model X, so it definitely helps. But I'm just amazed at Tesla's lack of foresight in that regard. I love their innovation, but...dang.

It's interesting that they did not come up with a way to pull the wing doors open without having to remove a panel. It's kind of cheap of them to do that, but at least it's an easy way to get in there as long as you have a way to open those panels. I guess that's the price of having the engineering for those doors while also having some way of opening them without power.

Great vid! I also keep a seat belt cutter and glass breaker in all my cars, in an easy to get place. All my cars get one, EV or gas.

Thank you, youre 100% Correct, just another thing Tesla should be telling new owners but they don't...WHY? Another thing they should be telling ALL New owners is that the charge port WILL NOT come out of the vehicle if Vehicle is locked. ****SO AFTER CHARGING MAKE SURE YOU UNLOCK THE VEHICLE FIRST, THEN REMOVE CHARGE

Oh... you mean a door handle... like every other car on the face of the planet. Now crawl into the back unhook your 6 month old's car seat and crawl back over the seat to the front, in an emergency, well the car is on fire. Great for people to know, but this is clearly a safety issue.

Regardless of if it's a tesla, another car, boat, plane, etc, you should always know how to exit your vehicle in various emergencies.

Also in that emergency, the important part is to never give up.

who knows a situation where you wouldn't be able to climb to the front? you know a car accident where someone could be in the front seats (likely if you're in the back seats for some reason) or the accident could be bad enough that the person in the front is stuck (i've seen where people get trapped in the front seat in accidents before). The back door opening method is admittedly dumb though

Just wait untill the gear selector falls off, then its super easy to get out, also these doors are super short anyways they didnt need to go fkin up + alot more weight + adds on the price
