Today’s video is in response to a question we received on our website.
“How long can you stay in stage 3 kidney disease?”

Robert gives us an excerpt from his story as a kidney disease sufferer. He shares his experience and has a transplanted kidney for over 16 years now. With a lot of health complications, dialysis, fistula surgery over the previous years, Robert started doing evidence-based research to help those who suffer from kidney issues with the support of science and advanced technology.

With stage 3 kidney disease, you could potentially stay there your whole life. It also depends on your age, how aggressive you are with your care, any underlying health conditions, etc.

If you do nothing or just do the bare minimum, or just the conventional treatments, there is a chance that you may not stay in stage 3 for the long term. If you emphasize on medical treatments and managing your blood pressure, things may get better. The medications have solid studies & research backing them up.

In stage 3, the kidneys are partially damaged, it gets hard to control blood pressure as you don’t have those kidney cells doing all the things they’re supposed to do to manage blood pressure.

Following a proper renal diet can help slow down the progression of kidney disease. Lowering sodium alone can drastically help your blood sugar levels. Along with that, proper supplementation, healthy lifestyle, exercise, and more are to be followed regularly.

Robert himself has been in stage 3 kidney disease for around 16 years now and he’s been successful in maintaining good health even with a transplanted kidney. His diet, supplements, medications, lifestyle have all contributed to his good shape.

When it comes to health issues, there is always self-care involved. You have a lot more control over your situation than you think.

I agree 💯! I wasn't told that I have CKD until I was in stage 3. And even then the doc didn't come out and say it, she casually mentioned something about how my previous doctor has me on the right blood pressure medication to 'protect my kidneys'. I asked her what that meant and that's when she said my kidneys aren't working fully functioning. So I took my lab results and started looking into it online.
So I requested a referral to a nephrologist. He said that for my age (60) I don't need to be alarmed. Didn't tell me to cut back sodium, nothing about changing my diet! Seemed like I made the appointment for nothing.
So I've lost faith in doctors 😒

1 recently found out at 73 from a new doctor i have been in stage 3 with Gfr 30-40 for 17 years and i did not even have a clue apart from some bags under my eyes which i find out is one of the signs of struggling kidney which i thought was due to old age
i have been well throughout with a well controlled hypertension for 30 years no proteinuria all my blood works good except high cholesterol level which alerted the new doctor to this
i had always done exercises and ate well so this shows if you look after yourself you could live long in stage 3
i am now eating Plant based diet with 3oz fish x2 a week which has improved my Gfr from 30 t0 38 in 4 months
there is hope for all of us

I was at stage 3b then did a keto diet, cut out most sugar, carbs such as potatoes, wheat, pasta, bread and in 12 weeks dropped back into stage two, plan on going further.

I was just in the hospital, I've been paralyzed for just over 30 years now. I've been having blood infections and bladder infections. I was in the hospital a lot, but managed to stay out for 16 months. A few weeks ago I had to go back in the hospital for another blood infection. The medication they gave me raised hell with my kidneys. My egfr was above 90, every day almost when they were taking blood tests I could see my egfr go down, 87, 81, 76, 69, 62, and finally when they let me go home it was 57. Now I'm in the stage 3 and I'm kind of worried about it. I've been trying to eat healthy but it looks like it's time to cut out all the process stuff now. I drink a lot of water, but still drink a diet soda now and then, time to cut that out to I suppose.
