Updating my WORKSTATION! F in the Chat for my Threadripper :(

So last week my beloved Threadripper workstation died suddenly, after 5 years in service. No idea what happened to cause this, but it's not coming back and it's too hard to get a replacement TR4 board. So, it's time to upgrade.

I've decided due to budget limits to build a relatively average AMD AM5 system, which should have a good upgrade path and enough performance for now. The Ryzen 7600 should be less powerful than the outgoing Threadripper, but at much higher per-core performance, which isn't particularly helpful for rendering but is good for a lot of other day to day computing activities.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I've LOVE to watch a video of you going through how you set up your VR gaming system.

I've been asked to put one together and I have no idea how to get it set up and running.

Love your content. It’s really well presented and has helped my understanding.

I’d quite happily donate on a regular basis. How about a donation per video model? That way you dont feel commited to put out videos when you dont have time.

One thing I totally recommend is getting a used Dell Optiplex or a Lenovo workstation.
You can usually pick them up at many PC surplus or recycle places for close to nothing and they make for excellent redundant machines for situations like this...
I still rock an Optiplex 7010, a Precision T3600 and a Lenovo P500 workstation...

Sometimes the adventure is a misadventure. F for your loss.
But I'm surprised you didnt go ultra cheap Ryzen 5xxx as to reuse your RAM.

I'd be tempted to track down a replacement board and revive the Threadripper if possible.... Even if you use it as a slave-processing box to power up and chomp on big things in the background, I've tasked some old boxes for this (they're only powered on when in use) and it's great, my primary rig doesn't have to cope with the job as the other machine's doing it. I really find this is an underused architecture especially in home lab settings; for me it's on VERY infrequently so power consumption overhead is almost nothing in a practical sense.

Two things not fair in this world...

No Micro Center in the UK. And the cost of electricity is a million pounds per KWh.

get a usb 2.5gbe usb adapter and do bonded 2.5 for a cheap speed bump - you will be able to upgrade to 7900x for 400 bucks which should be almost 2x as fast as the 1950x plus you have an upgrade path to zen5 as well - you lack so much pci lanes but hey if you really need them then you can save up for a epyc sp3 board. please do try to do cluster at some point too - dual port 40g cards are like 40 bucks - no switch needed

I recommend Sergei Strelec's bootable ISO, it would have automatically booted you windows, and if you boot into their window environment you have a ton of tools to edit uefi settings.

A motherboard that wont boot Windows is not an issue, it's a feature.
