I always assumed Kalpana was a US born American of Indian origin, but now that I know she was brought up in India it makes me truly appreciate her hard but successful journey to NASA.

my mother met her father when we lived in karnal....her father told my mom that she use to study for 16 hours and was very very hardworking child...i don't remember much but there was one park named after her "KALPANA CHAWLA PARK" where i use to go with my dad...

I remember she did a visit to my second grade class to give a talk. She handed out these envelopes with Nasa stamp on it and I still have it to this day. She is a true inspiration. Fly high Kalpana

This video made me really emotional.
When I was a kid, my sister who is 8 year elder to me had her room full with posters and quotes of Kalpana Chawla. She would collect every picture of her in the newspaper stick them on her favourite books. We made fun of her that she was obsessed. Now, almost 20 years later i realise how inspiring she was.
