508 pitches @ 103 mph since 2008 (~2, 450 games) means .2 pitches @ 103 mph per game. That says more about how unsustainable it is to throw 103 mph than it does its value. Velo still matters a lot, but 103 mph is rarer for a reason.

Yeah I don't think anyone questions whether or not velo matters, they question the cost - sh1t tons of injuries and low pitch/inning limit.

If you look at that infield hit you'll notice that Chapman's fastball looked like an inside strike on it's way, but then it broke inside and jammed Ohtani, if you pause at contact you can see Ohtani was swinging for a pitch inside, because of all the movement it jammed him, but because he saw the ball well he still made contact, that puts in perspective how fast everything happens.

And eventually everyone's arm shall shatter and the game eventually is dead sadly. I wish velocity wasn't the one and only thing people cared about anymore. What happened to control and movement being key and not velo. Can we go back to those days in baseball so I don't have to watch everyone get injured to arm injuries?

Velocity doesn’t matter, what matters is how effective the pitch is. Yes, velocity can help that, but velocity isn’t everything. Look at Greg Maddux. Dude’s the best pitcher of all time and threw 90

Tell that to Greg Maddux. I'd take him over any of the 100+ mph pitchers today. Every one of those guys is 1 pitch away from a TJ surgery, and it seems to happen a ton. Look at this season alone!I'll take command and location any day. No wonder why Glavine, Smoldtz, Avery, Wohlers ended up so good, The Professor taught them everyday!

A swing and a miss for a strike is different than "landing in the strike zone". It's so hard to be consistent when throwing heat like that. Incredible to watch though

Velocity is definitely a positive as this video proves, but give me 94-96mph with the ability to paint and a breaking ball to offset it any day
