NYC Bike Share Quick Look

Показать описание
Bike share is a network of thousands of attractive, sturdy bicycles available at self-service docking stations around the city. Bike share is best for quick urban trips. Users check out a bike using a membership or credit card, ride to a docking station near their destination and return the bike.

Bike Share in NYC will be run by Alta Bicycle Share and funded by private sponsorship and user fees, not taxpayer dollars. Bike Share membership will be inexpensive (less than one monthly MetroCard), and bikes will be available 24/7, every day. The system will consist of 10,000 bikes, distributed at over 600 self-service, solar powered stations.

Alta Bicycle Share will run, manage and maintain the bike share system, while NYC DOT will coordinate community outreach and regulate station siting.

Bike share will put the city on your schedule and makes getting from point A to point B just a little easier.

@steinphoto You find another station nearby - in DC they are all around. Also, the company monitors stations and moves bikes around by truck if there are too many in one area and not enough in another.

@cooketristan Helmets are great - but they are not required in any of the cities where I have used Bikeshare. Basically, when you rent a bike, you waive liability on the part of the company and the city. Bring your own helmet, is what I suggest - it's a lot easier than lugging your bike on the Subway - has anyone ever done that? Not too easy or fun.

Only mentioned it to give reasons for wasteful spending. I used to be one of those blue collars so I know the deal. Have a nice night. Peace out.

@lotwyo I think it doesn't need to be forbidden...it would be a good thing to make it mandatory, but also people should care enough about their own safety to be using one without having to be it a law...It is not like anyone is doing something to us in this respect...let's get little bit of personal responsibility into the game....I agree with cooketristan...bring your own helmet...

what do you do if the rack is full when you go to return bike?

i wouldn't ride a bike in this city -- any city for that matter, without a helmet...it's surprising that the city isn't making it mandatory or at least figuring out a solution to that given that they give away helmets, regardless of waiving liability...

I don't have anything against Blue collar workers like civil servants getting paid. But i care about is the fact that people drive crazy in NYC and these bikes will get a lot of people hurt.. btw i rather a blue collar working making a good living than some dude in an office getting paid 6 figures just to tell people what to do.. that is not work...that is called being a king...
