2024 is nearly over but we've got one last surprise sitting under our Christmas tree. For our final teardown of the year we're taking a look at Hasbro's Furby, one of the most gifted animatronic toys of the year, to see whether this adorable little Ewok is repairable.

And while it sure is cute, let me just warn you this teardown is borderline disturbing and if you have an aversion to seeing cute things torn to shreds run away fast!

imagine having your life support turned off, only for it to be turned back on and for you to wake up with your skin removed and the same man who is doing this to you to prod your incredibly sensitive tongue, claiming he is force feeding while you are forced to giggle and squirm while you suffer in agony. then your world goes dark once again as your life support is turned off again, only for it to yet again be turned back on and more of your body parts have been removed, and then for this process to repeat until there is nothing left of you. truly a horrific fate.

This is very useful information for Furby fans, as the community has a strong focus on repairing/restoring them; it's a shame you have to really rip and tear to get the fur off, especially since other models are considerably easy to skin.

If they had made that coat easier to remove and replace, just imagine how much fun people could have customizing these little guys. The vintage market has a bunch of people who do custom Furbys and they already had enough of a fight to do for that. Come on Hasbro, encourage some creativity with the next iteration!

It should be illegal for companies to produce plastic products like this that are put together in such a way that they break when opened. It’s so wasteful, if someone wants to repair it, they should be allowed and able to.

And that's why I save parts from Furbys that have died! They don't sell replacements, but I've got plenty! I'm always prepared when it comes to these little guys.

Fascinating stuff! There's a bit of a furby fandom online, so there's tons of guides for taking apart to repair/customize your furby -- the '98 ones' pelts are secured depending on the factory. Some are glued to the shell, some are zip ties. First mod that most furby people do is putting an elastic band where that zip tie would be.

I can't help feeling that someone with way more patience than sense could figure out how to non-destructively remove the pelt. (at least after two or three sacrificial furbies and manufacturing some special tools) But maybe I'm just not sufficiently jaded regarding the sadism of engineers.

I think it's awesome that they revisited their roots with this furby, but I think it definitely would have been much more awesome to have a fully moving and articulated masterpiece of engineering, like the furby connect but on steroids.

Never thought I’d watch the dissection of a furby at the end of 2024 but here we are. This toy looks so much more approachable than his ancestors.
