As a Chinese, based on experience with mooncakes what I can say is that you can never trust the cheap ones. They don't taste as good as the original/real ones and instead taste like processed food because they are. The actual mooncakes (based on location and price bought, the pricier it is the more genuine they are) taste SUPER good. Love mooncakes lmao.

There is no rational reason why moon cakes are so expensive. There is never a shortage of flour, sugar, oil, and beans. All you need is an automated process and you can make one million moon cake each day.

honestly $1 mooncakes of that size (ive bought) are extremely dubious because its almost doubtful if the cost of production isnt more than the selling price… but its a pretty nice mooncake. I do think it is very worth it. Just so funny.

We made sure to compare that $1 mooncake with the MBS exp mooncakes….
Theres no reason why mooncakes should be very expensive, 🤔 surely the MBS one got more depth but the $1 makes a nice easy cheap dessert.

Big fan for mooncakes especially this big one with above normal plain intis will be on sale at moon cake festival months only at my place so literally I've waited every moon cake festival month of the year ... Till the Chinese vendor out of ste festival stocks I've bought every morning at pasar pagi 😅 especially that salted egg and green with melon seeds always my fav... On that month I'll eat it as morning breakfast evening tea desert 😅❤️
