16 Jaws Facts That Made Movie History
The 1975 thriller Jaws is, to date, considered to be one of the best films of all time. Directed by Steven Spielberg, Jaws was a production marvel as it was the first motion picture to be shot on the sea. The film was a summer blockbuster and went on to receive several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Original Music Score, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. Jaws is based on its namesake novel by Peter Benchley, which was published in 1974. The motion picture revolves around a man-eating great white shark wreaking havoc on the fictional Amity Island in New York. The police chief, Martin Brody (played by Roy Scheider), plays the lead role in safeguarding the town's residents and killing the shark. Other notable roles include Rob Shaw as the shark-obsessed fisherman, Quint, and Matt Hooper (played by Richard Dreyfuss), the consulting oceanographer in the case.
