16 Jaws Facts That Made Movie History

The 1975 thriller Jaws is, to date, considered to be one of the best films of all time. Directed by Steven Spielberg, Jaws was a production marvel as it was the first motion picture to be shot on the sea. The film was a summer blockbuster and went on to receive several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Original Music Score, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. The music score, in particular, was very well received. In fact, some even accredit Jaws' phenomenal success to John Williams, the composer of the film's background score.

Jaws is based on its namesake novel by Peter Benchley, which was published in 1974. The motion picture revolves around a man-eating great white shark wreaking havoc on the fictional Amity Island in New York. The police chief, Martin Brody (played by Roy Scheider), plays the lead role in safeguarding the town's residents and killing the shark. Other notable roles include Rob Shaw as the shark-obsessed fisherman, Quint, and Matt Hooper (played by Richard Dreyfuss), the consulting oceanographer in the case.

While Jaws has been widely enjoyed over the years, there are quite a few interesting facts that many have missed. Facts Verse Presents 'Interesting facts about Jaws', plug in your headphones and let's learn some interesting facts about this iconic movie.

Did you all know that Jaws was actually filmed on a small island off of Massachusetts called Martha's Vineyard? Right near the town Oak Bluffs, there is a 20ft bridge that you can jump off of into the water! It is featured in the scene where the son is in his small boat alone! Who's been to Martha's Vineyard before? Comment below!

Spielberg knows very well how to perform “the art of omission”! That’s why this is a classic movie in its genre! Love it.

Saw the movie when it came out. I was like 9 years old at the time. Scared the willies out of me. I still have trouble swimming in the ocean.

I was 2 years old when the movie came out so I wasn't allowed to watch it until I was 12. It scared the crap out of me... no other movie has scared me like that since.

As a child, I couldn't swim in the deep end of the pool at night for fear of meeting Jaws or Jason. xD

It has a PG rating because there wasn't PG-13 at the time, and it wasn't really an R either. If released later I'm sure it would be PG-13.

I read the book by Peter Benchly and the movie was SO MUCH BETTER! Keeping the focus on the shark was the way to go!

Saw it when I was 8. Scared me so much that I insisted my grandfather check the filter system of his pool for sharks before I would swim in it.

At 15 yrs of age JAWS was one of the first movies we as "kids" were allowed to go see. My brothers and friends absolutely loved the film despite having the dickens scared out of us. We saw it another 5 times that summer.
My favorite movie of all time to this day.
Then Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind came out the following year...great movies years those were.

As far as the movie Jaws go it was one of the best movies ever produced.

I was there on Martha's Vineyard when they were doing the cell me of the movie oh, and I was hired to be security for the props that they used in the movie all the shark props. I also had a small part in the movie which my name never appeared in the credits was just pissed me off but that's okay. I was one of the extras that was hired oh, Peter benchley came and asked me if I wanted to play a couple of parts in it and I gladly said yes

When you see Richard Dreyfuss walking down the Gangplank asking where Chief Brody was at, the young the young man in the blue jeans and blue t-shirt long hair and mustache was me
