Interesting how a lot of people felt like the name "Student" refers to kids. When I first saw the pen and their special names for different cap colors like 20's this, 50's that, I immediately thought of university students especially protesters when it comes to 60's and 70's 🤣 This is a very beautiful pen, I'd like to get the green one in the future. Btw I'm really happy that you mostly review fine-extra fine nibs. Most people are into broader nibs and it kinda makes the review useless for a extra fine lover like me.

Such an overlooked and underappreciated brand with an impressive heritage.

What I love with Kaweco 🖋️ is that most of them are very modular to permit easy nib swapping and at a reasonable price too.

Very similar to my beloved Dia2.

I wish that they would reintroduce a piston filler.

Thank you for a new interesting video. This brand is really great. I’ve got a Kaweco Sport and a Student with two nibs. It’s so easy to swap the nibs! All of them have a great performance and I’ve had no issue since I’ve got them. The relation of quality price is pretty good in these fps.

Hey DB! I have a shiny piano-black version of this pen, and I absolutely love it. The pen is a smooth writer, and it has a retro look about it in shiny black, and the chrome Art Deco style clip. I would agree that alot of people do not know about this pen.

I’ve been looking at this pen since it came out. I’ll definitely be getting one this year.

Funny thing, in several years of looking at this pen, I was “today years old” when I realized there is no model for the 1940s. I guess Germans don’t like to talk about that era…

I have the blue one - I really like it, it has almost everything that I want: girth, metal fore grip, and price, it doesn't have the weight that I like, but I'll live with it.

*whistle* Simply the Best carries some schwanky stuff. Hope to check it out this fall for some window shopping. Pretty high price point for pens, eh?

I really hate to echo what you've said, but I don't understand the name "Student" either. The Perkeo to me is more of a student pen to me than that, and I wouldn't know how it compares.

I really do like that vintage style, though. I hope there's a resurgence of retro styles with modern twists because that's what I love.

I would like to see a video on edc fountain pen supplies as well as a pocket pen best of the best comparison. I currently have 3 active fountain pens I keep with me at all times..two kaweco sports( an Al sport, and brass sport) and signature edition Peter pen. I'm just curious on what other people travel with.

Regarding the ink, Maharlika refers to a social class in pre-colonial Philippine society, referring to the free people (non-slaves). The English name of this ink is "Blue Blood" (which is nice because it's blue but sheens red), and it's referring to the incorrect connotation that the Maharlika were part of the noble class, and a sort of political nod to the disinformation and propaganda campaigns of the late dictator who wanted to rename the country to Maharlika. The propaganda they spread was used to justify his ill-gotten wealth -- he said, he didn't pocket that money from government funds, but that he's some descendant of an ancient kingdom when the Philippines used to be called Maharlika. People are easy to fool about this because of the fact that our Spanish colonizers had burned and erased so much of our history, but the fact remains that historians have solid knowledge that we were never called that name, no such kingdom existed. Vinta Inks always has some interesting story behind the ink name and color choice, and there's meaning behind its choices in Filipino & English name for the ink.

By the way! Good pronunciation, you were close but you stressed the wrong syllable. It's read like muh-HAR-li-kuh. Stressed on the second syllable.

Thanks for the review on the pen; I was looking through Buchans and I've been thinking about it ever since.

I also want to know your opinion on those wood/acrylic turned pens that people sell at trade shows. I got one a while ago from a local guy who makes them in his garage in his spare time. It fell apart on me. I'm guessing the pieces are cheap and they just assemble them into the wood turned part?

I immediately concluded it was called "student" because it followed the classic collegiate aesthetic
